Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

Anyone else had steam crash on host a lot when streaming (to link).
Game is usually still running.
Got a 7970 in with 16.1 drivers and have messed a lot with the encoding options.

Yep, I posted a few posts above. Never had Steam crash in all of the years of using it but crashed a few times when using the Link. It might be Big Picture Mode causing it though so try not using BPM.

That seemed to fix the crashing but obviously stops me having steam big picture overlay for my controller which is a bit annoying. Thanks though.

Good to know it works, at least. I'd like to think Valve are aware of this so it'll hopefully be patched in a beta update at some point soon.

New build
Steam Link beta build 499
Changes in build 499
Fixed a memory leak causing Steam to crash on the host after a while

Im hopeful.

Since the last beta, the Link is buffering every few minutes to the point where it makes games lag like crazy.

Just trying to play The Room, a puzzle game, is showing a lot of lag resulting in the mouse cursor and sound crashing out for a few seconds and I lose complete control.

Very frustrating, especially as it was great before this beta.

They just dont seem to be able to get it right, the last beta build for me was unuseable but this one is perfect. Installed division via uplay last night (didnt launch) then added as non steam game and it just worked, played for a few hours no hitches at all even over my powerlines. love it when it works.

Well this Steam controller really is impressing me now. Touch menus, light pull and full pull of triggers doing different things, using the gyro for fine aim.... You really have to stick at it but it really is coming on leaps and bounds with all the features that are being added! :)

Must say I think I'm almost ready to leave the XBOX360 pad alone now.

I am very tempted especially with good feedback like this. Can't justify it with the combo of Xbone and Razer hydra though. Generally covers my needs

Agreed it just gets better and better. They have just added ability to bring up keyboard in windows desktop now too incase you want to do some browsing or something with it. (Useful for steam streaming).
Im still yet to rewire my brain to use the grips for the tasks I put on them e.g reloading I always seem to just use X.

Steam Link acting very weirdly. I can stream at 1080p at 60 frames per second and it'll be fine for a couple of minutes. It'll then really start to stutter, buffer with a "slow network" message in the corner.

This lasts about 5-10 seconds and then it's all fine again. I thought it might be my powerline adapters but other people are fine. I've tried tweaking settings but now I'm. Stuck.

What else is happening on the powerline network? I had to unplug my PS3 to stop that happening - would be fine for a few minutes, then stutter city for a few seconds, then fine again.

Only my Fire TV, I wouldn't expect that to be an issue though.

I've just uninstalled GeForce Experience and also changed a setting in a Steam file as it was supposedly set to cap bandwidth at 30Mb/s by default. I've changed to 100Mb/s and played a few mins on the Link and it seemed fine. I need more time to test though but if it works, I'll post in here.

Ive had this, resyncing the powerline adapters solved the issue! Mine have a button on each one, i think you press it on the main one then the light will flash for a while for you to go to the other plug and press the button there. I have the basic tp link ones seems to happen every now and then. Like sometimes windows 10 logs in rather slowly so thats a sign something is up with my connection as it uses my ms account.
