Well I tried all sort of different download locations and the most stable I could find is Manchester (i'm in London), am getting about 500KB/s.

They have said they will - it won't be "dumbed down", but it will be streamlined. I hope they don't dumb it down, because it is one of the few complex games left. The learning curve is HUGE though.

I get suspended whenever I try either Manchester or London now.

Personally i've found belgium to be the best download location lately, london, manchester, ireland and occasionally netherlands have all become very bogged down.

Yeah I was on Belgium for a bit, usually when things go slow I head for Germany or Sweden, but even both those were slow this evening too.

Having said that, I am getting 1.3mb/s on London now, which is a little bit better.

Thing is , 1.3mb/s is slow compared to my normal download speeds. But I do feel for you, I remember online gaming on a 28k modem so I know the pain of speeds

Wish someone could come up with some kind of utility which checks all the steam servers in some fashion at any given time and gives you the speeds for them all, would be much quicker than changing through the servers and restarting steam over and over to find the best current one.

Any idea how it compares to EVE Online for the learning curve? I played EVE for years so learning curves don't scare me

What amuses me with the X Superbox is that if you go for X3 Gold, you can put all the X titles into your cart for £9.22, making the superbox a bit of a bargain fail. Shame it wasn't £5 as originally suggested, I'd have had it at that.
