Stephen Fry and Apple Macs

Each to their own. I find Mac very easy to do what I want, and so does Vista. However, Mac do it in a better way lol. Basically this thread is just going to go into flame war about which is "better".

It's all down to user preference at the end.

I agree. It's perhaps my utter resistence to it, and the fact that all major companies offer "downgrades" to XP that just point to it being useless, which in my experience it is. RHEL / Mac OS X / Debian any day of the week beats Vista

Except if you want to play games, and I do. :)

"Wait!" Vista haters will exclaim, "You could use XP!"

Well, no, I couldn't, not with 8GB ram, and there's no way in hell I'm going to use XP64.

When your buying an operating system just to play games, then you know it's ****.

Well except for the fact it does everything I want it to do and I know how to use it, having had it for years now in one form or another.

What would you suggest that can flip seamlessly between gaming and work in AutoCAD / Photoshop?

Oh wait.....perhaps I should just use it for work, and twiddle my thumbs when I want to play a game? No thanks. As I said, I like PC gaming (not console, before you suggest that) and it does what I need to do work wise, and is practically universally supported for the programs I use.

There isn't another OS that does what I want.

Your missing my point, I'm not saying people are stupid to use it, just that's crap, there's a difference. I use windows professional, mainly because I dont have a choice. But it is pathetic, no two ways about it.

...therefore by extension saying people are stupid for using it, because you think it's rubbish.

Unfortunately it doesn't really matter what you think, so toodle off to the Mac section please :)

Well I'd suggest your in the minority, if you want to think Vista is the best OS out there then so be it.

Yeah, I do what to think that, because I know there isn't another OS that does what I want. You personally haven't suggested any alternatives to me (that will do what I want) for me to take into consideration.

If the OS does what I want, and I have no alternative, then it has to be the best OS for me.

No because I don't game, the ability to game on Linux isn't the fault of Linux but of the developers themselves. You can game to a certain extent on many of the major Linux variants using WINE. You still don't get it, it's not that I think people are stupid that use windows, just that it IS pathetic

Shonuff!

So basically the only option you are willing to offer me is to install Linux, end up ******* about with WINE for hours on end trying to get anything to work, getting laughed at by it when I try and use DirectX 10, THEN tearing my bloody hair out when I realise that photoshop and AutoCAD don't work on Linux.

Developers don't support Linux, because its a minority OS. Its great at what it does, don't get me wrong, but I'll be damned if I'm going to switch to something that can't do what I need of it.

I agree with everyone else.

Macs are just so crap there's no point in them existing. Over priced pile of rubbish Apple are.

I'm not debating that in the slightest I'm just saying Vista is carp, and it is! Do what you want, but because you can't run a few apps you like doesn't make vista any less pathetic

Vista is awesome. When i use the uni pc's i feel like i am going backwards as they are using xp. Just doesn't feel as good. And don't get me started about linux, it is so unsupported you may as well not bother, no games, no itunes, no ms office. I don't want to use similar programs, they are never as good. I don't really have an opinion of macs as i haven't used in at least a year

Any reasons why you think it's so incredibly bad? Because you're basically trolling at the moment.
