Steve vs Linus, round 2

Steve comes across as quite petty, bit bored of the whole shtick.

Remember on a prebuilt review he was complaining that the manufacturer put some hot glue on the USB 3 headers to stop the cables coming out in shipping. Really?!? Surely that’s a positive taking the extra care and cost to ensure a smooth delivery and from all types of glue hot snot is the least offensive (literally pulls off as a single piece) Just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Handbags at dawn then!! I don't watch any of the review videos as I prefer proper written revieews with photo's that I can take my time looking through. All of these so called journalists love the sound of their own voices and just waffle on and on, no thank you.

As far as I can tell, Linus routinely gets involved in shady stuff and claims to be innocent all the time.

Steve called him out on some stuff, and has now leant so far into being "the guy who calls people out" that he almost doesn't know how to proceed without calling out more people.

And now we've got a load of pointless gesturing by both of them that achieves sod all, but does get a ton of clicks and media attention for both of them.

I agree for the most part.

I can't watch a Linus video because he comes across as a phoney, whiny, condescending man-child who's half-assed his way to success and has been spoiled by it. He's the MrBeast of the tech youtubers.

As for Steve of GN, he's more bearable with all the hardware stuff with a bit of humour added in but sometimes crosses the line of being a know-it-all. He's jumped to the wrong conclusion a few times now that shows he's not the engineer he obviously aspires to be, but his enthusiasm for the industry is to be commended. As @Jim99 mentions, Steve has to be careful with his current agenda of calling companies out but it is entertaining, informative and obviously pays their bills!

I watch abit of both, I'd defo class LMG as more entertainment but that's fine as some of their stuff is quite decent and easy to watch imo.

GN is decent when they are doing the whole tech bit but this is just stupid.

He seems to have taken it upon himself to annoy as many people in the industry as he can, I suspect it's going to lead to more channel growth at this point but then a sharp decline when no one wants to work with him and actively puts barriers in the way of him trying to creating his bread and butter content.

It's all over stuff that people with half a brain won't get involved with anyway.

Gamers Nexus do some good reviews and reporting, but do seem to have started over-dramatising stuff sometimes and deliberately beefing for no reason (presumably for the clicks). This isn't high quality journalism defending consumers or providing useful information, and it doesn't help anyone.

Maybe Linus and Steve aren't so different in how 'entertainment' focused their content is...

I prefer jays 2 cents, he doesn't profess to be an expert, he's just a computer enthusiast who has found a way to make money out of it and just seems to be a normal guy having fun.
Yeah I quite like some of Jay's stuff, the issue with Jay is he tends to get pulled into stuff and has to make the odd serious video, I'm sure it annoys the hell out of him having to do so but feels he has to get involved due to the others jumping in.

1 produces independent reviews and conducts investigative journalism, and 1 produces infomercials and sells $200 school bags. They’re barely in the same sphere.

GN also sells ‘merch’ that’s regularly plugged. I mean, crappy copper drinks holders. Talk about faster way to cool hot drinks or heat cool ones. Modmat, drinks coasters etc etc.

At least the LTT screwdriver is objectively good at what it does!

You seem very biased. The faux outrage drama bait is very immature for somebody who projects as some holy saint of techtubers. Some of the in-depth stuff is cool, but a lot of it is waffle and the investigative journalism stuff starts strong but quickly turns to scraping the barrel for ragebait.

Conducts investigative journalism.

Certain expectations come with that and he seems to be starting to fall foul of them.

You can't just throw muck every other video and expect everyone else to still play ball. He doesn't have the backing of a large corporation, someone will end up rinsing him sooner or later.

It's the world we live in.
