Steve vs Linus, round 2

GN also sells ‘merch’ that’s regularly plugged. I mean, crappy copper drinks holders. Talk about faster way to cool hot drinks or heat cool ones. Modmat, drinks coasters etc etc.

At least the LTT screwdriver is objectively good at what it does!

You seem very biased. The faux outrage drama bait is very immature for somebody who projects as some holy saint of techtubers. Some of the in-depth stuff is cool, but a lot of it is waffle and the investigative journalism stuff starts strong but quickly turns to scraping the barrel for ragebait.

GN sell a few t-shirts, mouse mats and the like. LTT are a full-scale Amazon clone these days.

I’m subscribed to both of them (actually several of LTT’s different channels). A good 90% of the last 3 weeks LTT and Short Circuit content have been sponsored by the manufacturer of the product they’re ‘reviewing’.

Certain expectations come with that and he seems to be starting to fall foul of them.

You can't just throw muck every other video and expect everyone else to still play ball. He doesn't have the backing of a large corporation, someone will end up rinsing him sooner or later.

It's the world we live in.

And yet GN are the ones invited in by Nvidia for a hands-on tear-down of the new 5090FE, whilst the others are running infomercial after infomercial for the partner brands.

I wouldn't trust Linus as far as I could throw the little weasel.

What's that got to do with someone really taking offence to how he is going about his journalism and dragging him through defamation case after defamation case?

Only thing he's had a real go at Nvidia for in recent memory is the whole melting power connector and that was all based on obvious evidence.

He's not stupid enough yet to really bite the hands that feed him.

I’m just remembering the time AMD started sponsoring his ‘Upgrading my co-workers kit’ videos and he used the first video to upgrade his wifes stuff.
That series ran for a good year or two sponsored by Intel before switching to AMD. They pick names via a lottery IIRC...

It's also a bit rich calling what GN does 'investigative journalism', an actual investigative journalist is likely to be offended by that statement.

He bites the hand of Nvidia every time he reviews one of their products. He even accused them of buying good reviews back during the 3090 launch.

Are you saying that choosing his wife, when the idea behind the segment was to help his co-workers, was an ethical decision? Especially given that his sponsors already basically rebuild his home entertainment for free every year.

His wife has worked for the company since day 1 so she is a co-worker. I'm not even sure what 'ethical' conundrum you are even suggesting is problematic here.

  ethical decision

wind your neck in lol. it is an entertainment channel. you think his wife is short of 10k? he is a multi-millionaire

All the YouTube folk dropped honey a few years ago because it was widely reported at the time they were stealing affiliate revenue from them.

I get why they all dropped them but I’m not sure why a few specific channels are being called out for not making a specific video about it - it was widely reported at the time by others.

It’s just drama for dramas sake.

The first time GN went after Linus was because one of Linus’ employees made an off the cuff comment about GN in a guided tour they were doing which was caught in camera. GN decided to have their revenge, and it all got a bit silly.

YouTube drama gonna YouTube dramas and it seems there is a lot of toys being thrown out the pram at the moment.
Mkhd did a piece on this a few weeks ago. He only dropped them like few months back

You might want to check your facts there.

In MKBHD’s own video he explained that he had 4 videos sponsored by honey and they were all in 2020…. 4 years ago.

Edit: from 7:32

Steve comes across as quite petty, bit bored of the whole shtick.

Remember on a prebuilt review he was complaining that the manufacturer put some hot glue on the USB 3 headers to stop the cables coming out in shipping. Really?!? Surely that’s a positive taking the extra care and cost to ensure a smooth delivery and from all types of glue hot snot is the least offensive (literally pulls off as a single piece) Just complaining for the sake of complaining.

That's a damned if you do damned if you don't moment. Had the cable popped out it would be a negative, keeping it secured with hot glue, also apparently a negative.

You mean the video where she literally donates the 5k AMD sponsor to a charity and then spends Linus'(their) money?
