Mine was taken from the nick I use in the game Quakeworld. It originated because in the 90s I followed NBA basketball a bit and I enjoyed death-from-above style gameplay in Quake.

Mine was taken from a meal I had in Rome (whole little turbot, loads of garlic, just perfect) + the Orwell book i like. Random or what?

I've been on the web for over 25 years so way back then I could pick my shortened name and that was the same on smaller sites like this one even up until the early 2010's whereas nowadays I'd have to pick IanH5437262527263563388262982837 when joining a new website to find a unique name
