Strange performance issue with new build - Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X

Phew. Fresh install and same issues. However - I think I managed to find the reason:

"Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188"

So Ive changed the ReadyBoot max file size to 40. Performance after cold boot was great however I still got this error. Will increase it further to 60? Im not sure. Anyone had this problem before?

Or u could disable it tho ur boot times could be slightly longer. Also when u installed windows did you properly wipe ur ssd in the proper manner before installing windows. Just wondering if IRS a HDD issue now u see. Do u have a normal HDD to try windows on for testing.

Also I read u can up the size to 128mb if u want.

I think I wiped my SSD properly. Disconnected second HDD, deleted all ssd particions during the install (all it was showing was unallocated space) - is there other way?

Secure erase then when windows installs let it quick format iirc.

Also googling 0xC0000188 brings up some registry fixes I saw. Dunno if u wana try it tho.

Ill try proper erease first. My SSD is showing as:

Disk0 (238GB)
Disk1 (14GB)

Do I need to "clean all" both?

well - so far so good. Diskpart/clean all worked and system is stupidly fast and snappy.

My Audiobox USB crashed once (well - sound was distorting when I was moving my mouse) but that's not related. So proper "deep" format worked

argh problem returned! So I did another very careful installation. Made sure that SSD is formatted, then installed chipset drivers first, then sound, then Catalyst. Someone on the internets mentioned similar issue which was caused by the monitor. So this time I installed my monitor drivers manually - and guess what - several cold boots later everything works. So maybe it was all about ^£%! Dell drivers. Who knows. Time will tell

********. Tried Skyrim and it was stuttering like crazy. Restart and its fine again. So nothing is fixed. I've run out of options

Tried to increase the voltage as suggested but it seems to be locked.

So another option would be to try older catalyst drivers or windows 7. Sight.

Neither older catalyst driver or switching to Windows 7 worked. Same issue - cold boot equals performance problems. I've run out of ideas

I need to re check all my cables. GPU came with 8 pin to 2x6 pin cable. Its very short so I need extension. Im assuming that I need two 6pin to power cables? Like the PCI express ones which came with PSU?

EDIT: Its the superflower modular. 12v single rail. I assumed that 8pin to 6 power should be enough?

Apart from that - the only irregularity I can see is related to Secure Boot. Its switched on in Bios but msinfo32 is telling me that its off. Weird.

Edit: managed to fix secure boot issue. Didnt help.

What did help was changing ^*&%*&% PCIe setting to Gen 2. Few cold boots later everything seems to be fine. Ill see later if issue will reappear.

I think I manged to fix it. First think I did: I connected my GPU to PSU using supplied 8 pin to 2x6pin with an extension (2x6+2 PCIe to PSU). Then I fixed Secure Boot (Had to change it to "custom" in BIOS and instal keys manually) and finally changed PCI setting from Auto to Gen2. Tried cold booting several times and everything is perfect.

What a lesson
