Strange problem

:D I wouldn't personally trust software to do that for me as it could so easily get stuff wrong. Your motherboard website has all the drivers you need bar graphics.

May take a little bit longer but a much cleaner way to do things :) hope everything works smoothly for you!

Yea like I said driver management software is ****.

Go directly to the sites for your hardware and get the latest versions.

Confident your issues will be resolved now but let me know

Ok I just managed to complete nearly an hour on Homeworld without any problems! So early indication is that the clean install has solved the issue.

Thanks for all the advice, this forum is priceless for the knowledge.

One more thing though. I have had system restore turned off forever as I used to think it was a resource hog, however this experience has made me think other wise, although once in about 6 years that I have had to clean install due to a software issue. Should I use the system restore in windows or do you guys use something else?

Thanks again for all the help

I always have system restore off to save on space.

I have all my games installed on a non OS SSD so whenever I do a clean install I don't have to do much.

I prefer to have all my files / installers / steam library on a raid 1 array that's separate from the os this way if something goes wrong you still have all your files but get to have a really fresh Windows install that backups don't seem to provide.

Glad you got it sorted!

That £10 you offered for a fix should go to charity ;)

Its back, another instance this morning. I have done nothing since the fresh install. I think it might be something to do with Homeworld and LOTR as I was able to play Metro for a good hr or so last night without issue. On the Steam discussion boards for these titles I can find no one else having the same issues so really do not know.

Super annoying to say the least.

Still completely lost with this. I have done a fresh install of W10, no luck. Then thought it must be something with W10 so installed W7, same issue, going mad at this point. So back to W10. Got to be a hardware issue at this stage, I do not know what is left. I have just swapped my ram sticks about to see if that makes a change.

Any more ideas?

Could be a possible memory leak relating to Windows 10/particular games? Could be worth checking memory when it starts happening.
might be worth trying a different OS if you have one available.

You could also check Startup and services and disable anything you don't need

Might be worth disabling the onboard video card (if you have one) via the BIOS
