Stranger Things (Netflix)

Just read that they they are making a season 2, an actual season 2 not a different story like an anthology. I had thought it was just a one off.

speaking of netflix, anyone heard of this issue?

If I havent watched netflix for a while, lets say one week, and then load it, it keeps defaulting to spanish audio.

Nope but my first thought was you should change your password.

If you haven't seen it don't open the spoiler

Where did the monster originally come from, how did it get there. Was Eleven made to fight that monster or was the monster supposed to be a weapon? And other such questions.

I think it was basically another dimension, asking that would be like asking where did the girl come from. I don't think they knew it was there, i don't think they even knew about 'upside down' either and it was accidental opening the gateway. It seemed to be her touching it that opened it.

A case of them using the girl to do the things they wanted done without understanding the how or the consequences.

I suppose another interpretation could be that she created it, a manifestation of her fear.

In response to the above

Eleven came from her mother who was a participant of an LSD/Acid experiment into mind control/telephathy etc but she did not realise she was pregnant at the time, hence Eleven being second generation is 'gifted'.

What I gathered was from the govt trying to enhance her powers, eventually leading to her being put in the water tank. Which amplified her powers enough to track people over the world (as evidenced by the russian spy she was supposed to be listening to) except it opened up far more than they thought including alternate 'hell' dimensions like the Upside-Down. In turn the creature that lived there gained access as Eleven became terrified and inadvertently opened the 'gate' between our dimension and the creatures, which in turn proceeded to attack people/animals who were bleeding close to the gate and seemed to weaken the general fabric around the town as it was able to almost break through in Will's house and had been able to in the woods - possibly Eleven actually escaped the facility this way and the tree portal was hers which the creature then used.

Good series, really enjoyed it. Few niggling issues but mentioned them in the other thread about this :p

Potential Spoiler for Season 2?

I'm fairly sure Eleven is still alive as the police chief seems to be putting food into a random box in the woods. I think possibly she is in the Upside-Down and can access that box for supplies or something similar.

update, your instincts are right, very alarming. Seems my account has been hacked even with my password change last week.

Netflix provide viewing history and logs and evan a account access log, changing again now and sending them a note.

Note i am censoring my ip in this snapshot of log.

They been watching better call saul and prison break. I wonder if a netflix chrome extension I been using to enhance chrome is a rogue extension.

Binge watched this in one go yesterday, thought it was brilliant and probably one of the best shows Netflix has ever done. I believe it's been unofficially confirmed for a season 2 so will be interesting to see what they do with said season as there's still a bunch of questions to be answered.

Response to potential spoiler
Yup, pretty sure El is still alive. Perhaps after her ending with the monster she has absorbed it's powers/energy and can now move between dimensions (Upside down and the real world) without the need for an actual portal/gate?

Enjoying it, watched upto Ep4 last night.

For a while watching Ep1, I did think it was trying a bit too hard to be Spielberg esq but soon forgotten as it moves forward.

Watched up to EP6 now, and I'm really enjoying it, the kids are great little actors, also love the soundtrack it has.

I'll watch the next two tonight, as the Mrs doesn't like it so we can go back to more OITNB and keep her happy :/

Watched the first 2 episodes and I'm hooked. Has a very retro 80s feel to it but every episode has the production of a film. Something eerie Indiana about it with some horror/close encounters style to it.
Netflix productions are only rivaled by HBO these days and occasional AMC. Do they command huge moneyon these series?

Soundtrack is very well done - ended up hooked enough to finish watching it though its not really my thing. I'm guessing they've intentionally omitted tying up a few things for the potential next season.

It was definitely "my thing", I was a massive Stephen King fan back then (still am really) and read all of his books and watched all movies and mini-series and I got exactly the same feeling from watching this series. It borrows massively from Firestarter, even down to parents being part of government run experiments with LSD but strangely I didn't care that it was "borrowed", it felt more like the Duffer twins were paying homage to King (in the 80's) than ripping him off.

Just about to watch the last episode, enjoyed it so far, a lot of scenes with them on Bikes reminds me of the scene from E.T where they're trying to get him to the forest to rendezvous with his ship.

^^ It borrows from a lot of stuff - I think like Dark Matter the writers manage to walk a fine line without it taking itself too seriously or trying too hard and it doesn't depend on a lot of contrived aspects which is why I kept me interested when the subject matter was very borderline for me - I usually find Stephen King type stuff gets tiresome quickly.
