Stranger Things (Netflix)

I counted about 7 parallel story lines watching the finale of Part 1 yesterday. Amazing writing to pull it off so superbly. Really enjoyed the later episodes and the new characters are like they've been here all along.

It is basically having 3 movies in one. You have Nancy's which is a thriller, Max's which is a horror and Hopper's which is a Predator style action film.

S4 was really enjoyable. Much better than S3 which i thought was rather boring throughout a good chunk of it.
Bit confused if Eleven created vecna by sending 001 into the upside down. But he had already tortured his own family years before (seemed like 15/20 years ago when he was a kid?) As it looked like it took place it the 60s or something and his dad has aged massively in the mental institution. So then El should be way older and young kid by the time she met him?

that's what you question over the other things this series changes the rules on? :p

perfectly guess everything about what's going on based purely on knowing D&D lore
I'M HOPEFUL for an explanation about that, especially...

Will and his paintings in the latest series, they specifically showed him picking them up in the scene when they have to leave the house, but nothing more. almost like he has some sort of "say/paint it and it'll become true", which would explain why when they play dnd, it then becomes true and the group know what it is, if that makes sense

Well yeah :D. That and how they perfectly guess everything about what's going on based purely on knowing D&D lore. But apart from that I roll with it :)
The entities don't really have anything to do with dnd lore. The Demogorgon in the first season shares nothing in common with the dnd demogorgon at all. The mindflayer, a little more but visually not at all (also mindflayers are a race, not an individual) Vecna only thing they have in common is that they use magic so far. It's just a defence mechanism for the kids to assign a familiar association to something that scares them.

Finished this up last night, even though a few months ago I was barely interested after S3 I loved it, some very minor niggles but overall some fantastic TV. Considering some of the episodes were well over an hour, they flew along like it was a regular 40 minute show and wasn't clock watching at all.

For me, while not better than S1, it's as good as in parts - the culmination of episode 4 with the Max cemetery scene was edge of the seat stuff. I think the Max actress deserves more credit, lots of focus on MBB but I think Max blows her out of the water.

Anyone notice the 22nd march reference in the roller rink, was Wills birthday and no one even remembered - minor thing but that's why he's in such a mood - I only remember the date as I share the same birthday.

Some nice IT and Elm Street easter eggs with the style of horror, 27 years between murders and of course the Englund cameo.

The writers say they actually forgot, however, I came the same conclusion, will was clearly upset that day, and his bday was a good reason. Shame the writers didn't go down that route and have that as a secret reason why will was upset that only avid fans would realise

Indeed.

Only 2 weeks for the final 2 episodes. I'd strongly suggest having Friday to watch them else you may accidentally see spoilers. Just need 4 hours free to get through the 2 episodes :p
We've watched 1 episode a day for the last week, I have no desire to binge watch high quality TV, I like to space it out - luckily saw no spoilers for this season, however I don't do social media which helped.

As it's July 1st we'll likely treat is as a movie each night across Friday/Saturday - decent length for those last few episodes.

indeed it's how i try to normally do things, however i'm worried that, given there's 4 hours of content, 2.5 of which is from 1 episode, i'm expecting big things and people love to spoil it for others.

i don't do social media either, but view imgur and it happens there too :p I found out han solo dies the night before i went to watch the movie force awakens.

but spreading it out is by far the best way to do it. i would much prefer netflix go down the 1 episode a week route.
