Stranger Things (Netflix)

After an awesome finale on Welcome to Derry and comments I'm reading here I'm not too enthusiastic about this last batch of Stranger Things.

Will give it a go tonight.

Wife and I watching episode 7 just as.....

Finally he's going to tell them I say. My wife - that he's gay? Me - oh I thought he was going to tell them he's a spy/liability. Oops.

We're loving it.

I think this second volume is merely here to try and tie up the loose ends and lead us into the finale which it did pretty well.

I have no idea how they are going to cram everything into the last episode however.

Also what the hell happened to Dr Owens?

Same thing as Mr Wheeler. Poof, vanished, gone.

I now see that Series 5 Episode 7 has a worse IMDB rating than Series 2 Episode 7 which I think is unjustified...getting review bombed due to the coming out scene? I thought it was 7/10 personally.

Having watched the entire series again over the last two weeks, as its complex with many characters, I get a much clearer understanding of most of it. Some thoughts and spoilers (apologies if incorrect):

Will being a spy for Vecna via the Mindflayer was suggested earlier - he was Vecna's first and had a stronger connection to the hive mind when he is close. Will and Robin talking in the tunnels and about 'being free' helped Will accept himself...then coming out to everyone was so that he was no longer hiding a secret, isolated or with fear or guilt that Vecna could exploit / use against him (weakness). As Vecna said children have weaker minds (now with his 12 like disciples) and is using these vessels to merge the worlds together.

In S4 Vecna's Curse (he needed four victims - one for each Hawkins rift / or quarters of a clock face as well?) showed other smaller side characters like Chrissy, Fred (newspaper editor) and Patrick their secret...guilt...fear and they ended up dead / enslaved...however with Max in limbo she eventually escaped this. Also young Henry/Vecna also used this on his own family.

Mr Clarke mentioned the Einstein - Rosen bridge and wormhole during science class in Season 5. As explained The Upside Down is in-between both worlds and is a closed timeline curve (Nancy notices that her diaries have no future entries after 6th Nov 1983) the date El opened the Mothergate / Will was taken.

Also the memory that Max and Holly see with a young Henry/Vecna killing the scientist with a rock - the briefcase seen in the cave / mine is important - if you haven't seen the Stranger Things Musical there is a whole backstory to this and Dimension X (The Abyss) and the blood given to El, Kali and the other Hawkins lab kids. Maybe we'll see more in the finale?

I don't know if there are any good (light) particles from Dimension X - all we have see are dark (bad) ones (Mindflayer). I thought in one episode when Nancy puts here hand above a portal there are light particles flowing around...also what about the exotic matter / negative energy in the sky when light was shone? They reacted / were visible to the light whereas the bad particles hide from it.

Well said. That point about having secrets and how vecna uses them with everyone else he's gone after was something I'd not considered.

Sadly people get blinded by "gay" and just can't appreciate everything else around it.

Finally up to date and lovin' it!

Good explanation on how the Upside Down and Abyss were formed. The gay thing was cringe, but it was Will's darkest secret and so to reveal it himself has weakened Vecna's hold on him. Questions:

What's in the briefcase?
Where are Derek's parents? Still tied up in a barn?
Where is Suzie poo?

What's in the briefcase
I can't remember but vecna as Henry seemed to gain his powers once he was at the age where he killed all his family. Which appears to he the same age he was when in that cave. My bet is that it's related to how he got his powers.

Though I fear it'll only open up a million more questions if so.

Henry was born with his powers. Easy and doesn't invite too many questions for this type of show.

Henry gets them from a briefcase. Who invented it. Has it been done before or Else where. Who knows etc.

If his powers come from whatever is in that briefcase, I imagine there may be a spin off show coming set in the 60s or something

Where is Suzie poo?
I guess she doesn't have a purpose in this series. Though a quick comment from dusty would be good to acknowledge why she's not mentioned at all.

My partner and I were discussing who we feel is likely to die. I said to her that the side characters to die will be wearing a red shirt. 3 seconds later it pans to the teacher, wearing a red shirt :p

What happens in the cave regarding Henry...and the briefcase
The back story to Henry is mentioned in the Stranger Things musical...basically Henry is accidentally transported to Dimension X (The Abyss) and comes back with his blood altered...he accidentally encounters the scientist trying to smuggle out secrets...

Re red shirt...I thought the exact same thing yesterday

Too many naff child actors, just impossible to watch for me.
everyone seems to have got worse as they aged and took acting classes and everyone is trying to steal the scene.

half the lines go to nepo casting and the dialogue is devolved modern rubbish.

doesnt even feel like the 80s anymore, it feels modern and the dialogue just doesn't help that at all.

literally turned into a talent reel for nepotism and up coming actors who will likely never get cast in anything popular again.

The acting is a bit pants. Usually I can see past it but MBB is especially awful, it feels very low budget channel 5 at times. Im still enjoying it kind you even if I feel its a little slow for a last season.
