Stranger Things (Netflix)

Reality is it should have been left after season 2 where eleven closed the gate and went to the school dance and live out her life in normality.

Couldn't agree more, that would have been the perfect ending and we'd have been left with a 10/10 two season series for the ages.

I've held the belief since the hobbit came out that to create good art, it's not to give someone freedom but in fact to put someone in a box. What i mean by that is that Peter Jackson, or the duffers, for LOTR/stranger things season 1, would have had a tight budget, and had to make every penny count. They wouldn't have been able to as much reshoots so scenes had to be filmed right the first time and not changed midway/weeks later and reshot. So they would have had to plan and plan and plan, and really make sure their ideas were as fully formed as possible.

Then they had huge success, and then we're given essentially blank cheques to make the hobbit/season 5.

No one to stop them, no one to say that's too expensive, no one to say no we can't rewrite the script on the day.

And as a result you end up with bland uncreative work that feels almost like the idea in their head on that day.

I was defending season 5 while we hadn't seen the full season but now that it's out and done, I am really disappointed and feel let down. Seeing the making of has only made it worse.

Disagree completely. Season 3 and 4 were both better than Season 2.

Oh I agree they were great as an individual piece and season 4 was really good, not so much 3 though. It was more with regards to the story line.

Series 2 had the best ending imo and they should have left it there as a story.

If you knew anything about the absolute state New Line execs and the pressure they put Peter Jackson under, you would know its not the same as the others.

Yea, too much to go into here, but certainly nothing to do with to high budgets, New Line did the franchise real real dirty with it and Jackson. A pretty sad read when you know how much time and passion Jackson put into the LOTR.
Yeah I know of the issues Jackson faced with the hobbit, limited time in particular was the biggest issue. Money and freedom to me don't appear to be the issue but he wasn't given time before hand to finalise what he was making

Have the last (2hr!!!) episode to go. Hot damn this has been awful. So much exposition, nonsense ideas and long boring, tearful conversations. Steve's decent, the best actor i mean - the other 'kids' are terrible. This season is a 4/10 so far and don't expect things to improve. What a slog.

I’ve delayed watching it to let the dust settle. Was probably the weakest of all the season but I still enjoyed it.

Almost a decade for 5 seasons. Feel a little bit sad that I now have one less show I enjoy to watch.

Didnt like Season 5 at all really. Very underwhelming; bad acting, boring over-long conversations padding out already long episodes, forced emotions and flood of tears all the bloody time (i honestly couldn't tell if Lucas was sweating buckets or crying when Max woke up, his whole face was wet!). Finale was pretty weak after all the years of buildup. I'd give it a 4/10. Would have been better if some of the characters bit the dust, give it a bit more weight - seems like the writers bottled it so that in a few years they can all come back when they need the extra cash.

Steve and Vecna actors were standouts. Winona Ryder should just give it up..unconvincing is putting it nicely. Im sure several of this cast won't be hear or seen in anything decent again.

I thought it was OK, not stand out, but a decent enough end to the series. They did better than a few other final series.
