Stranglehold Demo Up Xbox 360

Wasn't impressed with it at all tbh, thought it was a below par game. Graphics were alright, but it felt rushed and the features in there are way too basic, like the heal function?! I'm sorry but they shouldn't have done this game without looking at Max Payne 1 and 2 first, these were real "bullet-time" games and both very well made. This is a shoddy re-make of a guy whose films have been damn awesome.

I'm pretty sure they will have taken a very close look at the Max Payne games in the development of Stranglehold tbh..

Combat wise I think it better Max Payne in nearly every way.

ditto, i think its miles better than max payne, plenty of stuff to jump over, slide on, shoot, awseome, i personally thought it looked great also

im slightly concerned about weapons, anyone know whats in the full version? because the movie at the end didn't really make me go wow, look at that weapon at all.

What kind of weapons would make you go "Wow, look at that weapon"? In the end movie, there are dual uzi's (which are also in the demo if you look hard enough), the dual pistols, an automatic rifle of some sort (didn't look hard enough to find out what it was) so no doubt there will be a few other derivatives too. Then there are the golden pistols which you find in the demo, as well as the helicopter gunship weapon and all the destructable objects in the game-world that can be used to kill people by shooting stuff to make it drop on their heads or collapsing or whatever. There's plenty in there as far as I can tell and no doubt there will be more in the retail.

The whole thing that sets this game apart from Max Payne is the atmosphere. You are actually being given the opportunity to take part in a Hollywood blockbuster action movie, with all the cool stunts and features that you would expect from a John Woo movie. The sliding on railings, flying around in the carts, swinging on chandeliers, it's all a really great touch and gives you a whole different approach to your average shooter. Plus John Woo is just awesome and the fact that there's his signature "stand-off" as a feature in the game makes it cooler :) Plus white doves aplenty :P

I dont know to be honest, i know you're never going to get plasma weapons or anything like that in this game, but they just didn't wow me, standard FPS weapons. I thought the Max Payne weapons got a little boring after a while.

Plus the combat, animations, ragdolls and scope for creativity, learning the game and potential longevity, really are a vast improvement over that offered in Max Payne 1 & 2.

The demo felt a little odd at first - cluttered, bumping into stuff and sliding without intention, loose controls, camera too close - then suddenly it all comes together in the most awesome way.

The best combat i've experience in years and years.

It's available for pre-order at £27.99 !

Just a heads up but the place thats doing them for £28 just emailed me to inform me that their stock is american therefore wont be compatible with the UK machines. Sadly they have cancelled my order seeing as they dont know when they will be getting the correct stock in:(.

Oh well back to my original place i guess...will have to shell £35 out for it i suppose.

More likely as to what has happened is that they've messed the price up and they're playing their get out of jail free card now as they can't know if the title is region locked or not until they have the game infront of them.

First thoughts...

- Clumsy
- Poor graphics
- Tacky
- Been done before (Max payne)

After 5 minutes of playing...

+ FUN!
+ Superb flow of action
+ Intense and varied (Not all just point and shoot)
+ Good storyline... draws you in
+ Great use of destructable scenery

I would say a 9/10 despite average visuals which can be tossed aside for fun packed gameplay - a rariety these days.

Only gripe, I can't seem to get out of the habit of mashing the blue button to reload for some reason?!

I get the impression its going to be very replayable. While i enjoyed it the first time through i found myself going back every day or so for another play through. I think itd going to be good for a quick pick up and play action blast.

Its alright, quite fun. Would buy it for £28 but as the price is wrong I will rent it. Didnt play the demo for too long as I didnt wanna ruin too much of the game.

Played this last night, awesome fun. Will be buying when I see it sub £30 and I actually have some spare cash and no unopened games on my shelf :o

Anygame that you can be playing and you have a conversation with you mate that goes-

"I think you just blasted him in the head"
"No, I think that was a melon"
"You sure?"
*comes out of cover and bullits fly over*
"My bad, it was a melon"

simply has to be bought :p

Your probably right, oh well ill hold off buying it for the time being...see if the price goes down.

One bit of the demo i did love is the precision aiming....i ended up taking out someones nuts:p....the reaction of the person was pretty cool and spot on really ie react as if they would in real life.

The graphics are obviously nicer than max payne, the actual physics and feel is sub par, it feels quite laboured, and while the things you do in the demo do seem like they should be fun, they just dont work out as much fun as they look.
