Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

seeing the up coming re-release of the vampire savior game, i interested to run a ultimate capcom fighting game tournament online. but i want to check the interest first.

i havent quite figured out the rules yet, but i am thinking of every player must enter at least 5 games, 3 old and 2 new. it will be first to 5 in every game. each game won worth a point and winner will the person with the highest average.

this will mean you have to know multiple games to win. the old games will be played on supercade. its basically ggpo except you can save replays. if you dont know how to set it up, google it. some games might have release on the xbox like 3rd strike and st, so neither version is fine.

the line up will be:

sf2 st or hdr
sf alpha3
sf3 3rd strike
vampire savior
mvc1
mvc2
ssf4 ae
umvc3
sfxt

might add more if there is any different titles (note: not different version of the game like sf3 2ND impact or something) missing. for thoses who might ask, why is there 3 version of mvc, the reason is without going into too much detail, all of them are very different game. obviously the only games that count as new are ssf4 ae, umvc3, and sfxt. since these are the only capcom game release in the last 5 years.

Wow, they're really fogging that one horse.

Not sure what else they can do TBH, it's the perfect fighting game. I try others but i always come back to SF4, it's just a shame everytime i do there's less and less people online to play with.

I really can't think what else they can do apart from make the graphics look realistic. Maybe make it full 1080p.

It's far from perfect, but it's the first one a lot of people played "properly", since it was the first game released during (in fact it was the cause of) the recent resurgence fighting games. This means most people simply can't play FG's with different mechanics as they are too stuck in their ways.

I don't think SF4 is the perfect game. For me, SSF2T was the perfect game to me, although have played HDR in recent years. It is much more fun to play.

Ah the age old "perfect beatemup" discussion :)
What is perfection? The game that spawned endless multitudes of games based on the basic formula of SF2? (Which some could say was based on the even basic formulae established by its predecessors... Yie Air Kung Fu et al?)

Or are graphical, audio and mechanics improvements to the game based on the same franchise considered to be a step towards the perfect beatemup?

Personally, I would say the game that I spent the most amount of time would be classed as the perfect game as I never got bored of it.

Hence... SF2, SF2CE and SF2HE.
After SSF2, I became more disconnected with the Street Fighter franchise with the introduction of supers/hypers etc. But I still enjoyed them of course :)

for me, alpha 3 without using the infinites is the prefect (at least the best) sf game. it has both the fundamental footsies and patient aspect of a sf game and crazy custom combos and juggles that are cool to look at and quite hard to do. most importantly, the game is not slow like sf4.

imo there are too many flaws and stupidity in sf4 to even be considered a be prefect fighting game. the only thing it did well is got a lot of people back into the genre and sold lots of copies. and it was the first one with a functional online play.

the problem is these people that got into fg because of sf4 only know how to play sf4 but pretty much refuses to try other fighters because they dont want to learn, lose once and immediately go back to their comfort zone.

the sad thing is most people that got into the genre dont even bother to try the fgs in the golden era of cvs2, 3rd strike, mvc2, even st (or the dark era depending on what perspective) even with the re-release on xbox live and psn (bear in mind most of them are also available on ggpo for free), because they think these games are too old and hard so the community isnt really expending.

it is very sad to see because sf4 probably has the most tamed and restricted engine out of all popular fighting game.

3s is also playable on MAME :D it is what my lunch times are for.
Have to use keyboard though because arcade sticks don't work on the 64bit version :(
Might try GGPO out though.

It's a generational thing. The PS3 was my first ever console back in 2008 and i was heavyly into Tekken 5:Online on the PS3, that was the reason i bought my first stick, SF4 came out and it was loads deeper althrough had balancing issues. Tekken 6 was a massive dissapointment with the gfx being so nobled compared to T5 and virtually no one online. Where SF4 felt like there was tens of thousands online.

some of the ggpo players spend their lifes on their games(especially the mvc1 players). i remember i struggled to beat this x-ism sakura player who was doing really damaging combo. i ended up lame him out with x-ism charlie:)
