Strep A

6 people out of 68 million died recently of it but the media would prefer us to be talking about it and scared.
I know someone who's child caught it recently and it led to sepsis, if she hadn't of been at least vaguely aware of the symptoms her son would be dead as she had to push the doctors more than once to not just pass it off as a normal run of the mill bug he'd get over and even then it was touch and go on one than one occasion.
If a bit of news coverage means more people are aware of what to look for then it's no bad thing.

No money in sepsis

I believe that's called an "echo chamber".

Also known as Twitter.
I'm not on Twitter. Well actually I have an account as it seems to be the only way some suppliers respond to requests. However I literally log in once in a while when I need something and you see some of the tripe there it's a frightening manipulation tool.

Many years ago, 9 maybe, my partner had scarlet fever, she was really quite ill during it.

Same thing if you need to moan about something to a company they respond on twitter all the time.

Don't think I've ever made a tweet.

Interesting too that the .gov UK website is saying that they have seen an increase in severe illness from Strep A due to lower respiratory tract infections of it and that they are investigating further

Yeah there's been a tiny number of Strep A empyemas, normally they're caused by Strep pneumo so it's a little odd.

It's pretty likely we're more likely to harm kids by causing panic and mass attendance of the worried well to ED than will be harmed by Strep A. Already seeing inappropriate A&E visits rise.

COVID left the paediatric wards much quieter than the preceeding years. 2019 was awful and this year feels very similar.
Was in PICU a few times yesterday. And talking with a few nurses on that ward they do seem to be expecting something akin to that. Might just be precautionary, but still.

PICU beds have been down to a single bed for the entire nation at one point last month. Going to be a challenge if Strep becomes a wider spread problem.
