Strep A

My worry about scattering anti-biotics about is not only could it affect the gut health of the kids, create a spike in the number of allergic reactions it will just make the resistance to anti-biotics (a more resistant strain of step A?) worse. It's like a policy from the 1950's where antibiotics were scattered around like sweeties.
I was going to post this as well. I hope they give out advice on how to help rebuild their gut health otherwise again we are kicking the can down the road for more problems.

Well that is a concern... But in this case if you genuinely have a bacterial infection isn't it the most sensible approach?

Though i agree our reliance on them will be our undoing.
Sensible, if somebody is actually ill with a bacterial infection. I had seen reports suggesting giving antibiotics to entire schools regardless of any symptoms based on a single case.

I hope they mean giving it to parents to have on hand for when the child reports they have a sore throat. This thing spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids rather than through contact with surfaces or air so it shouldn’t spread like wildfire.

Several kids have died now, but why did the press only started to report this last week? I've not heard of Strep-A before, then it's like as if this illness suddenly pounced on us only 5 days ago.

Is this a new strain or something?....Or just an outbreak resurgence after covid etc?
Reduced immunity to common infections due to reduced social interactions during covid. That’s what has been reported by experts.

Lovely...I have heard of a strep cough..never knew it could kill though, terrible for those families.

Weird, I'm getting a Mummy's Maternity Notes from an April 2022 EDD and in there it mentions she has Strep A and they've got to talk to her about it and the impact it could have on the baby.
First time I've ever seen this Strep A mentioned in hospital notes, I'll probably see it all over the place now.

You sure its strep A? Usually it's Group B strep that is the concern in mothers or infants. Strep A isn't very concerning in that situation.

Strep A is ancient and causes sore throats and scarlet fever/rheumatic fever. Its made kids sick since the dawn of time but there is a cluster of very sick children currently. It may represent a slight variant in the circulating Strep strain, reduced exposure due to lockdown meaning less immunity, or just bad luck.

YOU ARE INDEED CORRECT

Found to be group b strep positive on screening, now SROM
Do not want augmentation or IV antibiotics and understand this is
against current NICE or RCOG guidance
Couple have read multpiple studies re GBS and treatment with
antibiotics and the effects of reducing fetal micobiome
