Hopefully the strikes will be over before our hols. However it's going to disrupt my family who are coming over to see us.
Many larger aircraft do. Most large international passenger aircraft are loaded with air cargo when they have spare capacity.
I've worked in the industry for years, and one of the biggest issues with autonomous vehicle development is handling humans driving their cars, and all of their irrationality / impatience. When you take human drivers out of the equation, the systems are much easier to build/operate, as computers aren't irrational and aren't impatient. Automous driving systems can also easily talk with the infrastructure (like traffic lights) and other vehicles in the road as well.

Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta, Georgia, USA has an underground system of pipes for loading fuel and unloading sewage. This has made aircraft turnaround much faster and easier, as there's now no need for fuel and sewage trucks by the planes. Presumably there's no space for putting a baggage system underground as well.

if that is true that is outrageous. isn't that below minimum wage? (and should there not be a London weighting?)FTFY
Allegedly they earn £12 an hour... you can't afford to live on that wage within commuting distance of London.
The cheapest 1 bed 'apartment' (aka tiny bedsit that has a combined living and bedroom - yes just a single room with a tiny bathroom and kitchen) is £750/month on right move.
So you earn about £380 a week after tax while making no pension contributions and your just rent is £173 (45%) of that.
It's about £115/week if you can stomach a tiny flat share (not even a house share!) which is still over 30% of your take home pay.
What a way to live....
that is already happening now. in America scallies are already attacking autonomous cars and blocking off all the sensors to shut them down. That isn't limited to other drivers, it's going to be amazing when pedestrians, especially youths, realise they'll be able to bully AI cars as they can count on the computer not being irrational and ploughing straight into them .
It'll be a sight to behold in any major city during the football season or any other big event.
Minimum wage is £10.42 less if you are under 23, nothing like a bit of legal but blatant age discrimination.if that is true that is outrageous. isn't that below minimum wage? (and should there not be a London weighting?)
(I wonder if the people in the other thread complaining that 100k isnt a high wage can reflect on what some people in the country are expected to live on.)
This, small flexible squishy humans that don't need plugging in are just so much better at certain logistical tasks, and the tasks they are not went years ago and had nothing to do with AI. AI isn't going to replace the humans we need now, that would require some terminator style cyborg tech.AI or robots are not load or unload a plane anytime soon. If you don’t understand why, I’d suggest looking into what robots are actually good at any why humans are vastly better at certain tasks. As long as their are humans involved, they can and will strike if you treat them poorly or don’t pay them enough.
I think you have your wires crossed as it was not me talking about using AII’m not going to dignify the ‘can’t they just build Xxx’ posts with a response. They can already turn planes round in half an hour if they want to, the biggest time sinks are refuelling and the safety checks done by the ground crew and the pilots. A huge number of airports have the fuel piped to the stand, they still need a small truck to come and pump it into the plane. It’s the pumping bit that takes the time.
If you make thousands of people unemployed then who won’t businesses that employ AI’s have less customers? This, small flexible squishy humans that don't need plugging in are just so much better at certain logistical tasks, and the tasks they are not went years ago and had nothing to do with AI. AI is going to replace a whole load of desk jockeys, tho. I can see there being the first completely AI controlled bank, why employ stockbrokers and mortgage advisors when AI can do it better.
Why employ Car sales people when an AI can instantly cross-reference all your information and find the perfect car to extract the maximum profit from you.
Even overclockers can get rid of their overpaid product managers. AI can source the best deals make the POs and real time set the best pricing
the wage rates bit was in response to your Q.I think you have your wires crossed as it was not me talking about using AI
Well if the individual wants a few percent rise then stick with the job and union. If they want a significant pay rise then they should look at a new job. But I guess taking the easy route for themselves, taking a lower payrise and inconveniencing customers is what they want to do
I'm not complaining that workers want a better deal. I'm suggesting they get a much better deal instead (by getting a different job which pays better).~1000 workers striking improves the lot of 1000 workers if they can succeed.
If you can see that the pay is pitiful and the job is essential (this will be demonstrated shortly) then complaining that workers capable of jobs at the bottom of the pay grade want a slightly better deal is quite sad.

I know what you mean but OTOH everyone should be expected to get a fair days pay for a fair days work. it sounds like that is not always the case.I’m getting fed up with all the strikes going on. Always holding the Joe Public at ransom. All these trade unions telling their members to strike if they don’t get what they want
Yes, my point is exactly that. If the job doesn't pay enough for you to live then get another job. There is a shortage of staff across so many industries right now.
