Anyone else not able to play for very long any more? I used to enjoy the long drawn out process of involved games, but now I can barely play for an hour before just switching it off.

I used to enjoy building up careers in things like driving games, now I'll just fire it up and maybe drive a couple of laps of a track in an open session and then turn it off, sometimes I even close the game before I've even played it, bored even with the thought of it.

It's a shame because when I was poor and playing a lot of games I would have killed for a system I have now, now I have it and I can't be bothered to use it :(

I'm getting that way as well. I used to be able to play games for the entire weekend and used to get totally addicted but these days I play for maybe an hour if I really feel like it but that is about it. I prefer to do other things than play games now. I spend quite a lot of time reading different news sites and contributing on forums and I also spent an awful lot of time learning to program. Now I all I really want to do is write which is something I haven't had the motivation to do for years.

So I guess my interests have just expanded as I have got older. I think that is a good thing though.

I go through phases where I really don't want to play and times when I really want too, luckily (from a playing perspective) I spend time away from home with work so when I am home I'm generally in a mood to play having had 3-4 days off.

I'm usually just too tired to play properly in the week, and by the time I've caught up with chores and other jobs at the weekend I just don't feel like gaming for some reason.

Last night was a prime example, I had all evening to myself so I fired up Project Cars - did a lap and a half of Donington, spun a few times and rage quit. Fired up my latest save of New Vegas that I had put a little time into, literally ran about for 30 seconds and just couldn't be bothered so switched it off. Browsed Steam library for something to jump out at me, it didn't so I watched a film instead, which was gash anyway (Star Wars).

Complete waste of an evening.

Maybe Dark Souls 3 will rekindle your passion for gaming.

Same here. I've been pondering the idea of trying a 1080 when they land for pc gaming, but then I keep asking myself: why? I hardly play anything anymore...

Only hope I've got this year is BF1 and the Cod4 remaster personally.

The fact I work in IT and spend most of my time stuck behind a keyboard and mouse during the day has also seriously killed it for me. It's the last thing I want to be doing when I get back home.

I'm going through exactly the same. I constantly tell myself.

Hence why at the moment all i play is Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch when released. I can play for an hour and then log off or can put plenty of time into it.

Same here. Just CBA with a lot of games especially fps now, which used to be my favourite genre, so damn bored of them.

A large part of the problem for me is that a lot of games are broken on release or/and poorly optimised that I spend more time trying to fix them and get them running to a satisfactory level than playing the game I.e. rise of the tomb raider and the MP side of things for the PC is just full of cheaters now.

Gone are the days where I could spend 3+ hours every night playing games

And the whole PC hardware in general is pretty **** these days I.e. rip of prices, drip fed 'upgrades' and ****** business practices I.e. g/free sync

I can see myself going back to console at some point in the future, PC gaming isn't what it use to be, I just wish console games were cheaper.

Yes. I put it down to old age and heightened expectations of games.

Lots of people love Fallout4. I think it's garbage, frankly. It could be something I enjoy, but building settlements so you can have a group of NPCs plodding around like zombies is not my idea of fun, or rewarding.

Yet something like Rimworld crosses my path and pow, 100 hours is snatched away from me.

But now I'm trying to play the FFX remaster and I can't play it for longer than 30 minutes, lol. Though the start is slow and I think I just need to wade through it.

I do sometimes play GOG. Colonization and the like.

Edit. Glad to see UT4 is back. Finally a fast paced FPS.

I can relate to both of your posts, almost the exact same way, just with different games. I find it hard to play for more than half an hour at a time, spent so much money on my computer and games and it does seem like a shame for it to be going to waste.

However, I do use my PC every single day even if it's not gaming, when I owned a PS4, it sat there never switched on, so at least my PC is more useful than a console.

I'm downloading older games which I either bought downloaded and never played, or bought downloaded and played 10 mins off and never touched again. I'm hoping BF1 + COD4 remastered will keep me playing, maybe I need to try different genres of games, who knows..

I've been this way for a while. I've started and stopped many games before even getting anywhere (BatMan series, Bioshock, Dishonored, racing games). I'm going to try play games which are more relaxing now. Things like strategy games which aren't too involved ot point n click games. It also doesn't help buying more than I play.

I am on the same boat with you. The last game I played like addictive were the first 3 months on TESO back in 2014. Since then, only on Stellaris and TW Attila I have spend hours and "lost the clock".

Nothing else holds my attention. Even WOT playing only when my mates are online.

Hence I started painting miniatures. I find it more relaxing nowadays than playing games.
While normal FPS shooters, I stopped them at Bad Company 2 era. The rest are for those who have "the force" with them, and 50 fingers.

Tbh is down to work. Arriving home at 7pm while setting off at 7am. Those 3 1/2 hours commuting on motorways every are killing me.

30 to 45 mins max for me also, just got a few new games (shadow of mordor, cod ghosts) and although i love the shadow of mordor i can only play it for 30 mins max, been this way for quite some time, makes me wonder why i still buy games, also,im not far away from 50 years old, perhaps that has something to do with it :)

I've been the same for years and don't even attempt to play games during the week anymore, but if I can get kids the out of the way early enough on a Friday night, I still enjoy a few beers and some BF4.

I lost interest in games years ago. I used to be a total addict playing at least 6 hours every night. Then we had children and I simply didn't have the time anymore. Now I have a little more time as they are older but as I am late 40's I can't seem to get into anything. I will have an occasional return to it for a few weeks and then leave it again for months.

It's a real shame as it used to be a genuine passion in my life. My son, however, is as addicted as I used to be and I have to keep his PC time under control.

I think it's age related and as we get older our attention span shortens. I bought Doom 4 last week and still haven't installed it. This is odd because Doom and then later Quake are what got me into PC gaming and away from the Amiga.

Agreed, most games just seem to end up a proverbial grind to me, I used to like the taking of a 'noob toon' and growing them into a maxx level god but to me nowadays it just gets too boring too quickly. Hell it has even driven me back to Eve Online after a 3 year absence.

Could be age, could be down to lack of concentration or just that most modern games seem to be the same ole..****.

Yup same here, apart from Witcher 3 everything else bores me after half an hour or so. Over the last few days I've actually been thinking about getting a PS4 instead of the new nvidia card, Last of us, Uncharted, UFC... - feel like I'm missing out of some decent games there

I've found that since I started making stuff for Youtube I've got a better balance in gaming in general, I spend about as much time messing around in video editing etc as I do playing so it keeps games fun :)

Rimworld is the latest one to grab me, I'm an utter noob at it but after a few hours I feel like I can put something together for those also new to it, so they don't starve their crew to death within a week etc.

I was having gaming burn out like many people prior to taking up editing, it's really about not playing too much - it's easy to automatically sit down at the PC and expect to be entertained, but even the best games will begin to drag if that's all you do. The only real exceptions are proper multiplayer games where you build up a rapport with other players and get the know them, the social element can help boost the longevity of the game far longer than otherwise would be the case, I'm thinking of DAOC, WoW etc.

Hail fellow jaded gamers!

I suspect that only having limited gaming time is making us far less tolerant of any game that doesn't deliver instant and consistent entertainment. Certainly, any game that doesn't grab me straight away results in a high CBA factor and my huffing off to do something more entertaining.

Recent disappointments are Fallout 4 (crafting? settlements?), Battlefleet Gothic (micro, micro, micro..) and the latest Tomb Raider (just hasn't grabbed me)

On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed Wolfenstein TNO, Mad Mad and am playing through my first XCOM campaign and having a blast with it.

Speaking of blasts, Doom 4 is one and I highly recommend any older duffer like myself who loved the original to give it a go.
