Student Gumball!

They shouldn't have bothered with the engine restrictions tbh. They should just require proof that you are a student and that you have owned the car for X amount of months or whatever.

Yup, or do it by car value - it must not have, say, a 'Good Condition' value of more than £4000 or something.

I see what they are trying to acheive - a bunch of students in typical student cars, Fiestas etc, but engine size isnt the way to acheive that.

Saw on the gumball forums that you've emailed them about your car, pretty sure that your car will get accepted, but could you post back what they say?

I've sent off a polite email asking them to accept the Jag, saying its insured in my name, fully owned by me, i've had it since February and that in real life, a 2.0 manual mondeo is faster to 60 than the Jag. Also commenting on the S3 thats allowed in.

Hope they bend the rules... If not, it may well be 2 litre volvo/saab shopping time....

Got to remember that not all those teams have actually payed to enter, just that they are registered on the site and therefore may not be able to compete with the cars that they have specified.

It just stinks of jealousy that anyone with a nice car is not allowed to attend.
I fail to see that, myself. They want a rally along the lines of the Scumball/Scally Rally, but with a younger crowd. No problem there. If those of us with sports cars want to do a 'rally' there are plenty to choose from, not to mention all sorts of European road trips organised within our respective marques' clubs.

Do you think they would allow the MG ZT then!? (its a diesel for gods sake....a diesel sports car...theres an oxy moron for you....330d excluded!) ;) :p

Not really. I'd be quite interested in doing it purely for the fact it is cheap. £155 is easily affordable for what you get.

However, something like EuroHoon is pretty damn expensive £800+ and from my point of view is unaffordable for a weekend break, which would total well over a grand.

hmm 2.0 rule is silly, should i enter?

would a 400hp mr2 or 400hp celica be classed as a sports car ??still only a baby 2.0 with porsche/ferrari destroying power haha.

were do i sign up :D

I'm actually really tempted to go on this but would probably be denied entry even though I'm a full time Uni student and would want to take my own car becuase by then... it'll be 3 litre :(

So you do something on a smaller scale, either with a car club or some fellow student friends. It's easy to do Europe on a shoestring if you really put your mind to it. I somehow doubt this rally will be visiting the most salubrious places on the continent so it's unfair to compare it with trips that do.

If you really want to enter this event, buy a <£500 car and abandon it in France before the ferry home. Not that I'd condone this, monsieur gendarme.

edit: Look at the Stelvio trips too.

I'd be extremely tempted if I had my celica (sports car?) by then, unfortunately i think im still working in london till the 1st so it'd be a bit tight to say the least!

Fox- I think you might be able to get away with it if you email them and ask - point out the 328i that's on the list (I know it's not final but hey)

could i enter then???

i am not going to uni, but am just finishing sixth from college. therefore does that count as a college??

:D
