Students = Cheap windows 7

I have skipped most of the questions/answers on this thread so bear with me.

I have vista home premium 64 dvd, as far as i can tell the student offer is only download option and will not get a dvd version with it. So does it mean:

a) I can only upgrade my vista with the downloaded copy?
b)Once downloaded, i cannot have a fresh install of win7?
c) Is the win7 a 64 bit version?
d) if (b) is the case then is there a way to install the downloaded version afresh?

Thanks

I just order pro for £30 how do i download it ?

" Download Instructions

1. Turn off your pop-up blocker or firewall programs
2. Click the “Download Now” button.
3. Save the file to your “Desktop”. Do not change the file name.
4. After the download has completed, double-click on the file icon to start the installation.
5. When prompted, use the product key listed above to activate your software"

I've turned off every pop and firewall programs

So how do i download it then?

Sorry guys, few noob questions here as I've just discovered I'm eligible for this.

I'm running Xp32 bit standard edition, if I get the 64bit Windows 7 upgrade will it work fine? A little confused what exactly the upgrade bit means.

I currently have an E6600 at stock with 2Gb Ram, is that enough to run Windows 7 fine or is it 4Gb minimum realistically like Vista seemed to be?

Just reading that bit about double clicking the download to start the installation so it looks like we'll be downloading an exe and not an iso.

No big deal really but if that is the case then that's how they're checking it runs from an activated version of Windows. In that case you'd think that the only people that might have problems are those with dodgy copies and even then, they might still pass the check depending on how rigorous it is.

We'll find out soon enough I guess.:)

So are custom installs possible with the executable? Or do you have to get the backup dvd for another £9?

I have a legit Vista Premium, so its not a problem, but I'd like to do a clean install in the future.

I'm planning to do a clean install from the download and from reading what it says on the offer site it does seem that it'll be possible.

If not then those upgrading from XP couldn't use it.

I agree. I'm hoping it doesn't detect that an upgrade path is available.

I guess its possible to acquire an iso anyway via other means.

I'm assuming it will detect that you can upgrade but you'll just actively choose not to by selecting custom install.

According to Microsoft's upgrade chart I can't do an in place upgrade anyway as I'm going from Vista Ultimate to 7 Professional so it'll have to be a clean install for me.

Will windows 7 student edition work on a pc with windows xp upgrade edition? Furthermore If I get the disc version of it can I do a fresh install on a new pc using the windows xp upgrade serial to varify?

Borich

Yes it'll work.

No one really knows the answer to your second question yet though but I think the answer is no.
