Stuff you know that others wouldn't know because of your job.

School IT budgets are wasted across the country in a major major way! (more than many would expect)

Lots and lots of money is wasted on over specced PCs, unnecessary purchases and a sever lack of price/product comparisons.

I kinda guessed that one already

I rather thought you were either DV cleared or you weren't - I wasn't aware there were grades of it that could change with the job. There may be other clearances above it (I haven't paid a huge amount of attention whenever it has been described although I believe DV is as high as you can get or need where I work) but DV is DV is DV essentially.

It does take a fair bit of time to get the clearance normally though, even if it's a high priority for the person.

Some clients have had to be interviewed for longer than others then other clients have had 2 or 3 friends or previous employers interviewed, where as others have only had maybe 1 or 2. Depending on personal circumstances some people require more in depth background checks; a little more digging; more paperwork (say they have parents from other nations for example). I'm pretty sure they're going to dig deeper if your job is going to involve handling highly sensitive information.

They generally do.

It also takes more research if the person is older as they have had more history, again this is another factor in the changes in cost.

As Captain says, yes DV is DV, but each person is different and whilst some might only require x amount of time spent on some might require y amount of time spent to gain clearance.

It's not the same for everyone.

SC must take them about 2 minutes to earn their £50 (that's all it costs) ;)

Don't really know much that others wouldn't really, don't have an exciting job :(

Although I do know to defeat some biometric palm readers for security access you can't always just chop someone's hand off and use it, some readers also monitor the temperature of the hand. In this case you need to stick it under your arm pit for a while (preferably in a bag :p) so as to get the temperature up. This doesn't work if the scanner also monitors for blood flow.

a lot of things about what makes artillery go boom I can't tell you about as I have signed a sheet of paper :p

Good ol summer placement at a gun range \o/

Could tell you lots of random rubbish about water pipes and mains, and their installations.

To dig up a pipe in the road requires 3 days notices, errecting a set of traffic lights takes 12 days. Setting up a road closure takes 13 weeks.

And lots of other rubbish about mains shutdowns, the prices involved, the labour involved e.t.c

I will agree but not say how I know :D

I Could tell you more but I would have to bore you to death.

Sorry, maybe it wasn't clear but I wasn't trying to dispute that they might take different lengths of time or further investigation for certain people with more complicated histories but I was just checking that it really was as I'd understood it and DV was simply the level - there's not a DV++, some sort of super-secret sub-level as essentially you're either DV cleared or you aren't.
