Stupid Mistake!!

Ok, did this really happen?

Long time ago, but there was definitely a smile and thumbs up as they sidled past me.

'Playing' is probably a little too much, there's a road near Southport/Liverpool that's NSL and pretty fun, and I was taking it at quite a quick pace, although not over the limit by an awful lot.

That was back in the days I took care of my car, just been clayed and polished a day or two before and the evening sun caught it well. :)

Of course if I'd have known it was the pigs, I would have slowed down a lot, but really around here we don't have issue with them as long as you're not doing something really silly.

I have had a similar thing happen more than once (albeit late at night)

Certainly a heart in mouth moment when you realise the driver "up for a bit of fun" behind has a Blue light stuck to his roof!

But sure,in my experience, this happens.

Happened to me too when i took my uncles 335i for a little trip to Glasgow, was stopping off in Leeds to pick up some mates when a 535D egged me on at the lights, did a few gps and a little sprint on some A roads i can't remember.. then he dipped back and tugged me in :D He checked my details and made sure i had permission to possess the car, said i drove good and apart from the speeding he liked my style, asked me where i was headed, said Scotland, he said "don't do that **** in Scotland", then let me go after telling me to slow down. :D

Yep, possibly the worst feeling I've ever had when I realised it was the law, and I was probably going to get taken very hard by it's long, merciless lovelength.
:o

Just an update for anyone whos interested,

Got my summons through the post this morning and I have been given the option to plead guilty by post, plead guilty and go to court and plead not guilty.

Obviously I am going to plead guilty but not sure how to go about it,

The offences listed are:

Permitting (my girlfriend) to drive a motor vehicle, then my car details and the road it was on, otherwise than in accordance with a license authorising her to drive a motor vehicle of that class. Contrary to section 87(2) of the road traffic act 1988 and schedule 2 to the road traffic offenders act 1988. Contrary to secton 87(2) of the road traffic act 1988 and schedule 2 to the road traffic offenders act 1988.
This offence carries penalty points.

And:

Using a motor vehicle, my car details and the road again, when there was not in force in relation to that use such a policy of insurance or such security in respect of a third party risks are complied with the requirements of part vi of the road traffic act 1988 contrary to section 143 as amended by the road traffic act 1988 and schedule 2 to the road traffic offenders act 1988 as ammended by the road traffic act 1991. Contrary to section 143 of the road traffic act 1988 and schedule 2 to the road traffic offenders act 1988.
THis offence carries penalty points.

The date at court is the 22nd of december, will be a nice xmas present if i lose my license :(

Will keep you all updated though and any advice is welcome.

Thanks.

Go and say sorry not much left to do. Hope it goes all right for you.

Doubt it will make much difference if you go to the courts or plead guilty by post. You could always drive to the courthouse and walk back I guess?

Personally stick guilty in the post and move on.

You ain't brown/black are you? If so, unlucky :p

Location: Newcastle
Not very likely :p

Unlucky OP, is there any more details as to why you'd want to go to court to plead guilty? Obviously its more expensive to the legal system to do this, but you may feel as though a thorough apology and justifications may help lessen the number of points to less than an outright ban...

Not sure how I'd play it to be honest, I think I'd sway towards attending court, and making the best impression possible.

(given that it'll be heard by a Magistrate, and be his umpteenth similar case, if you've got no previous history it might count for something)

Because like it or not, people in this country still stereotype on factors such as this. Especially the older generation.

I'm not sure what I'd do tbh, slightly more on the side of suiting up and attending I think. You know the out come if you post it.. You may just get lucky if you attend (Very very small chance)

I'd have liked to have seen some discretion from the officers on this thing. Sure the OP was daft to do that, but it's not exactly that bad... it was quiet, next to 0 traffic with a short journey. Sure, I understand, it's illegal, and I'd be cross if I was hit by and uninsured driver - completely understand that... however in this case, a stern word would have worked wonders IMO.

Still... maybe worth going to court and apologise and explain the situation, show some clear remorse that you are experiencing, and accept that you're ready to take it on the chin, but at least show them you're interested in hearing their side of the story - but magistrates hate car drivers that do 1mph over the speed limit, break any subclause and subsection and any uneven paragraph on an even numbered page. It'd be even worse if you were a motorbike rider, they actually ask you to bend over at the mag's.
