Stupidest thing you have done with a computer?

I've never even heard of Elonex.

Quick google search reveals that there is such a company and it sells £99 laptops, among other things. How bad can it be?

I purchased a Dell once. Beat that.

Unless your into modding and/or building your own machine there isn't much wrong with them.

Just get them to arrive with no OS installed, so you don't have to swift through all the crap that they install on their machines.

We use Dell's in all of our offices, and they comprise of about 8/10ths of all our servers too.

Out of around 50-100 machines I'd say only one has shown a BSOD in the last three years... and it's still going.

If your building it for gaming, and want to upgrade it in the future... then fair enough, stay clear.

For Mom & Pops, they're fine.

Thats exactly it, Time machine, Tiny, Dell and Emachine, all good machines for the non tech person.

However, I hated the lack of upgrade options available, With those machines, You literally pay out of the nose, for something with no breathing room

the main 3 problems with prebuilts are restricted BIOS, trial software clogging it up, and not being able to upgrade it much. but if the trial software is removed the other 2 problems arent a problem for people who arent intrested in gaming/overclocking.

Let me see...

Bought a Tiny PC.

Bought a Voodoo3 3000 from the Purple Nurples.

Slipped while fitting the back plate cover and there was blood, oh yes there was blood.

To be fair, I doubt Mom & Pops would be worried about trail software all over the place either.

I certainly can say that my mum's laptop would still be full of it if I hadn't removed it. There's also a fair few users in our office that still have the preinstalled crap from the Dell's on (depending on whether I set the machine up or not... and whether I was in a good mood... and most importantly whether I was hungover or not )

*Raises Hand* I have also flicked the voltage switch on a psu, maybe we should make a club or a support group or something :D

Yup I did that to an old 386 when I was like 10 or so....

I think the PSU gave me a nice mushroom cloud of smoke to inform me of my stupidity!

I remember trying to 'short' one of the backsockets of a C-64 when I was about 9 or 10 but I can't remember why exactly. I think I read something in a magazine about making it better or quicker or some such rubbish. Used my sister's hairclip and my dad went mental, lol.

Wish I could remember what the hell I was trying to achieve :) Anyone?

I'd built a PC for a Uni mate, and was busy carrying it to his car when..

Got outside, and started saying goodbye when I realised I'd forgotten his mouse. I run back upstairs and grabbed it, came down and ran outside.

The door slammed and locked me in the street, what's worse was my food was cooking and I had no way of getting back in the house and no phone to call for help. I couldn't knock as all the other tenants were out for the day

Had to try and switch off the cooker through a small tilt window using a stick, the rope from the washing line and a section of the down-pipe of the guttering.. in true A-Team style I completely ballsed it up, and had to kick the door in.

Called my landlord to inform him and let's just say he wasn't amused :D
