Stutter in games with high end system

What pagefile settings are you setting, if any?
Also are you playing over WiFi?
Have you got game mode in windows on or off?
I'm using default page file settings I never tend to touch them, I did try maxing out the amount of page file and also turning it off altogether but it changed nothing and I play via ethernet directly into my router and I'm on virgin media and get 387mbs download 23mbs upload and 6ms - 8ms ping

Given hitching can be resource loading or similar - try reseating RAM? (If you already replaced it my apologies, I skimmed the previous pages and didn't see it but could easily have just missed it) Or try running just a single stick. Sure, 8GB is worse, but if one is causing errors the game is trying to handle then it may help? Checking / changing mobo RAM channels used etc.

Got anyone local to you that knows their stuff? Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes on an issue can make the difference. Where are you based?

Ive swapped memory from 16gb of corsair vengeance 3200 to 16gb of gskill trident z rgb 3600 and I've tried both a and b channel.

I've got my 9900k arriving today but I k ow that wont make any difference now as from my experience if the cpu was faulty in any way it would show a lot more signs than some frame spikes in games I can run aida 64 and prime 95 36 hours straight without an error.

Like the previous post said I'm base in Croydon. I seriously considering grabbing a different brand motherboard which would be a shame as this board has such a good feature set it would be hard to find another with the same specs at the same price point it would either be the maximus hero or msi MEG ace in my price point.

I really need this sorted before the 19th April as I'm off to insomnia 64 BYOC

Just out of curiousity do you have xmp enabled? while I'm not sure if it's my problem or not the stuttering seems less since I disabled it again. I've read that manually adjusting the timings in the bios has fixed stuttering etc in games for some people. I've not gotten round to doing it yet.

Read through the thread again - you mention Afterburner - this can sometimes cause problems especially with rivatuner installed alongside.
  • Does Afterburner intitate with windows?
  • And do you have Riva Tuner installed alongside?
Either way, I would uninstall both, reboot and say a few hail Mary's.

Oddly enough, I had similar issues a while back and this was also caused by MSI software, specifically the auto-update tool. When it was running, it would periodically cause huge CPU usage spikes resulting in dropped frame rates. Uninstalling it provided a complete cure, so maybe this is an MSI thing?

If you want to test if its the OSD injection no need to go all out uninstalling, just add the game to rivatuner and set it to none for injection, or just temporary close it down.

We have similar systems. I had this issue and it turned out to be a USB Bluetooth adapter, I think I was using it for my old mouse.

As soon as I unplugged it, the issue disappeared.

Cheers guys I will try evga precision instead and see if that helps.

I'm gonna grab another motherboard as well just so I've ruled everything out of the equation.

I'm looking at the maximus line but cant decide on the hero, code or formula?

Any ideas what to go for??

Yeah probably irq confict/share issue then in your case, something not to be overlooked, good post.

OP can try to enable MSIX mode on the GPU which would solve it if its irq related.

Looking more at the z390 series so maximus XI.

I've only got my node pro, g502, k95 platinum installed and neither of them are showing signs of issues.

Anyway to check if there is a IRQ conflict?

The Formula is a great board, I love it. The little LiveDash display is quite handy (until it goes back into a cupboard!).

That said, don’t get it unless you plan to make use of all the custom watercooling functionality, those features push the price up, and without a custom loop you’re just wasting money imo.

This is based on my experience with the X range, so forgive me if things have changed.

grab Aorus Pro Wifi- cheaper and will perform the same, or if you want flagship then Aorus Master- much better UK RMA as well

Properly designed heatsinks which you dont need to water cool :)

My build is so tight I can’t watercool the VRMs on my X Formula until I change cases. The VRM temps are excellent even without watercooling. My fans are all set to 400rpm.

I'm at my wits end with this current PC build I've literally replaced every component trying to fix the stuttering I'm getting in games.

My initial system started off as:
8700k delidded @ 5ghz @ 1.38v
Z370 gaming 5 motherboard
16gb corsair veangence rgb pro 3200
2 x 500gb Samsung evo 970 nvme drives
GTX 1080 strix
Corsair rm850x psu
Custom watercooling cpu and gpu with 2 x 360 rads
Dell 27 inch 1440p 144hz gsync monitor

I experienced stutter in pubg, farcry 5, metro last light, battlefield V and apex legends. I thought the issue was hardware related after switching drivers and clean OS install so I swapped my GPU to an RTX 2080 the stutter remained, swapped my 2 500gb nvme drives to a single 1tb 970 evo plus, stutter still remains, swapped my motherboard to a Z390 aorus master, stutter still remains, swapped my memory to 16gb gskill trident rgb 3600 and stutter still remains. my new system is now:

8700k delidded @5ghz 1.38v
Z390 aorus master
16gb trident z rgb 3600
RTX 2080 msi ventus
1tb Samsung evo 970 plus nvme
RM850x psu
Same custom loop 2 x 360 rads with both gpu and cpu cooled.
Same Dell gsync 144hz monitor

Im using latest drivers for everything I'm now at my wits end and considering cpu and psu swap to try and fix it. Please help

i had the same problem . it was my psu in the end . i bought a be quiet dark power psu and booooom everything is perfect

Are your games installed on your nvme drive?

if so, what's the max temp recorded on the drive whilst gaming?
Could use hwmonitor to get the temps.

and have you installed the samsung nvme driver?
