Hi guys, lots of talk recently about the stuttering problem of the 680/70, so I thought I would start a thread so we can all list if we actually get the stutter and if so, in what games.

I don't get the stutter, so will list what games I play.

BF3
Trine 2
Dirt 3
Black Ops
World at War
Skyrim
Diablo 3
Farcry (thought I would play this again in 3D)

None of these games have stutter for me. So if you have stutter in any games, list it and we can compare settings and see if there isn't something us end users can't come up with. This might help while NVIDIA work on a fix.

Reported games that don't have stutter.

AC Revelations
Alan Wake
Anno 2070
Arma II
Assassins Creed Realations
Batman Arkham City
BF3
BFBC2
Borderlands
Bulletstorm
Civilisation IV
COD MW3
Company of Heroes
Counter Strike: Source
Crysis
Crysis 2
Crysis Warhead
Darkness II
F1 2011
Fallout New Vegas
Far Cry
Fear 3
Frozen Synapse
Guid Wars 2 Beta
Half Life 2
Jamestown
King Arthur II
Kingdoms of Amalur
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 3
ME3
Metro 2033
MOH 2010
Payday: The Heist
Portal 2
Portal 2
R.U.S.E
Red Faction Armageddon
Ridge Racer Unbounded
Saints Row The Third
SC Conviction
Serious Sam 3
Singularity
Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity

Reported games that do have stutter.

I had severe slowdown in batman ac, the steel mill to be more precise where the sparks are flying all over the place near the furnace. I no longer suffer from that while using the 301.42 driver. I am still testing other games though.

Do you get it at all now in Arkham City? If so, I will add it to the stutter list.

Could prove interesting if the above poster (above you gregster running 680/67- SLI) tested fifa?

It is a relatively rare combination of cards to run at this moment, maybe just maybe it provides the answer?

The only issue I can see here is people knowing or not knowing ingame settings / forced settings at this stage. At least it should be possible to determine whether hardware fault is the concern from a cards/stutter/ stutter free compilation.

Keep up the good work

EDIT:

Skyrim,
Dead space 2,
Hard Reset,

All reportedly causing 680 stutter here by the OP : http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=226227&st=100

It is also possible players are using different drivers, AND/OR are playing with VSYNC OFF

Thanks for the input. I have added those to the stutter list but I would rather stick with OcUK users, so we can work together/ask questions to see if we can't come up with a lil help. Our knowledge combined and what works for some may help others.

Updated.

So far it seems that the new drivers (301.42) are helping some but not all. 120hz monitors seem to help also. I have my settings as global and v-sync off in all games. Basically I have not fiddled with the NCP and only alter the in game settings.

Fifa 12 and Batman AC seem to be the PITA games for stuttering at the moment. Hopefully guys will report the settings/drivers/monitor/CPU they are using if they have problems or not in Fifa 12 and Batman AC and maybe we can deduce the problem and find a work around.

Any sec now...some troll who don't even own the card is going enter this thread and call you all fanboys lying and claim they know more about the GTX 6xx cards than you all do and derail the thread into oblivion into yet another Nvidia vs AMD thing :p

*Go grab popcorns*

I hope not :(

I had quite bad stuttering in Diablo 3, I took some advice from people on a forum suggesting that I install the vanilla drivers from the disk (300.83). The stuttering is almost gone now, it's still there a bit but no where near as bad.

Hopefully this works for others as it did me.

Nice one. I have played Diablo 3 but not online (I have a guest pass for the first act). I will be buying it on the 28th and looking forward to it. I read on forums that a lot of the stuttering is with both AMD and NVIDIA and was purely down to the time of day playing. Blizzard servers struggling a lil me thinks?

Edit:

Just had a read on the EA Forums about the stuttering and it seems this stuttering is affecting both. I skimmed through TBH.

Just had a look at the stuttering on youtube. I would be ****** if this was happening to me.

Also searching for a cure for Batman AC, it seems this issue affects 7970's also so maybe it is bad game coding? I read that turning off DX11 fixes it but this could be quite old and pre patch.

Lazy game coders or lazy nvidia? regardless, no one who spends money on rigs and games should have to suffer the stutter.

Happens to me on a 120hz monitor if that helps. It seems to happen more with games that have an engine based frame limit. For example fifa12 and Batman AC will both cap at 60fps regardless of v-sync setting.

Yep, I have read that both these games have the framerate limited to 60fps in game. Maybe a console command would help or a hot fix?

Batman stuttered on all cards in dx11 mode, I had it on my 570. A recent patch fixed it though, so I'm guessing those reports of stuttering on ati cards are pre patch gregster, but would have to check the dates. That stuttering was a lot worse than the stuttering I've seen on these 670/680 cards.

ok bud. I wasn't looking for anything other than a fix and several reports of both cards. Could well be 680/70 only now.

I hate to say this but it happens on the Heaven benchmark to some degree too. I've been using it lately to work out my temperature issues with SLI 670's and I can see noticable stutters. When the fps are 100+ there shouldn't be any slow down what so ever, it should be smooth as silk. Yet I see the frequent pauses like the picture is sticking and catching up.

It does that with me at the very start.

Starting to look more 670 specific now. I don't see why but maybe more 670's sold than 680's?

They are the same card with less cores, so maybe this has something to do with it.

Good list Rusty. With deus ex, I would say it's the game simply because of your extensive list. I will update when I get home from work.

Guys I was gonna be buying a gtx 670 windforce today but this is a bit off putting , is it just a matter of drivers or would I be better off waiting or going with something else ???

It seems to be game dependant and being honest there will be a fix. It would worry me more if nvidia had not acknowledged the error.

If you play FIFA 12 or Batman AC, you could run into stuttering until the fix but if I was buying a 670, I would shelve those 2 titles until it is sorted and carry on getting the WF regardless. That is me though.

Ok, list updated. What we have learned so far is:

301.42 have helped some with the stutter.
Turn off all V-Sync options have helped but can lead to the other problem of tearing.
Returning to the original drivers that came with the card have also helped.

Also what is strange is some get stuttering in a particular game, whilst others don't. The core clock dropping on certain cards maybe part of the problem?

Thanks to the guys who have posted and I look forward to more posters with feedback.

If somebody could video this stutter problem, that would be great. I am not sure if Fraps would pick it up or not but a YouTube vid showing stuttering didn't actually show much.
