Stuttering 6XX and in what games?

Happens to me on a 120hz monitor if that helps. It seems to happen more with games that have an engine based frame limit. For example fifa12 and Batman AC will both cap at 60fps regardless of v-sync setting.

Yep, I have read that both these games have the framerate limited to 60fps in game. Maybe a console command would help or a hot fix?

I did search a while back on changing the frame limit on fifa but didn't hit any results unfortunately.

Batman may be possible, afterall there is no frame limit in the benchmark.

dota 2 stutters for first minutes then it will be fine

some random stutters happen but not very often

GTX 670

Batman stuttered on all cards in dx11 mode, I had it on my 570. A recent patch fixed it though, so I'm guessing those reports of stuttering on ati cards are pre patch gregster, but would have to check the dates. That stuttering was a lot worse than the stuttering I've seen on these 670/680 cards.

ok bud. I wasn't looking for anything other than a fix and several reports of both cards. Could well be 680/70 only now.

Just had a look at the stuttering on youtube. I would be ****** if this was happening to me.

Also searching for a cure for Batman AC, it seems this issue affects 7970's also so maybe it is bad game coding? I read that turning off DX11 fixes it but this could be quite old and pre patch.

Lazy game coders or lazy nvidia? regardless, no one who spends money on rigs and games should have to suffer the stutter.

Who knows!

DX11 did look like a potential culprit as I know that there was a raft of issues with it at launch.

Sadly I've just tried playing the same 'choke point' again with DX11 disabled, at lowest settings with every conceivable option turned to 'off' and it made no difference whatsoever :(

Latest updated applied etc. etc. and on these settings a 670 should run it silky smooth. Whilst there are some framerate dips during the benchmark they are at the same points as my old 570, and nothing like the stutter fest in the video

From the current stutter list I have a conflicting experience. I've played Tribes: Ascend on my 680 and it did not have stutter.

I'm wondering if it's and idea for anyone reporting an issue to give some indication as to whether or not they get it game wide or if there are certain points / places where it 'triggers'. With something like FIFA it is evident as soon as you play a game whereas in Batman AC it is only really evident at certain points....so a game could appear okay when in reality it might not be.

Not saying that's the case with Tribes though. Just that it may help determine how widespread the issues really are. With the relative newness of the cards it's hard to tell if it's only a relatively small minority affected or if it's a wider issue that just hasn't become more apparent yet......I know I probably spent more time running Heaven than playing games the 1st week I had my card so only seeing it now that I'm dipping into my Steam library :D

I hate to say this but it happens on the Heaven benchmark to some degree too. I've been using it lately to work out my temperature issues with SLI 670's and I can see noticable stutters. When the fps are 100+ there shouldn't be any slow down what so ever, it should be smooth as silk. Yet I see the frequent pauses like the picture is sticking and catching up.

It does that with me at the very start.

I think I'm going to cash in my chips and go the RMA route.

At the moment we don't know for sure if Nvidia have definitely got to the bottom of the problem and if the fix they implement will have the desired effect or not. As it's easier to RMA now I think I'm going back to pick up a cheap Fermi card to tide me over until I see how things pan out.

It's a shame because when it works as intended the WF 670 is a pleasure to use; powerful, cool, quiet etc. However, when I could get a smoother experience on my 570 (albeit at less fps and/or some settings reduced) there's something wrong. I know the longer I live with these issues the more they'll begin to bug me so better to cut my losses.

As someone who grew up with F1GP in the Amiga, anything over 30fps is a luxury, so I can live with occasionally dropping below 60fps.

The issue I've had with my 670 is where it downclocks itself in older games which means it runs worse than a much cheaper card would.

Not sure if the above issue and the general (possibly vsync related) issue is the same?

Here are the games I've tested with my 680. All of which stutter free:

BF3
CoDMW1
CoDMW2
CoDMW3
Fallout 3
Skyrim
Diablo 3
Guid Wars 2 Beta
World of Warcraft
Half Life 2
Portal 2
Counter Strike: Source
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
Arma II
Civilisation IV
Metro 2033
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Medal of Honor (2010)
BFBC2
Crysis
Crysis 2

And one with stutter (which makes me think the game is knackered):

Deus Ex Human Revolution

Starting to look more 670 specific now. I don't see why but maybe more 670's sold than 680's?

They are the same card with less cores, so maybe this has something to do with it.

Good list Rusty. With deus ex, I would say it's the game simply because of your extensive list. I will update when I get home from work.

I can understand why people are annoyed if that is how every game is for them. It was atrocious.

I tried to vsync @ 120 as I had about 260 FPS which I thought might be causing the issue but it didn't do anything to help. Luckily I had already finished the game when I had a HD6870 as I couldn't have played for more than 15 minutes with it.

I did search a while back on changing the frame limit on fifa but didn't hit any results unfortunately.

FIFA is a funny one as the framerate limit only seems to apply if you enable v-sync. 60fps regardless of what your refresh rate.

With v-sync off there is no limit but something like EVGA Precision X or Nvidia Inspector can be used to limit it to 120.

I eventually managed to disable the framerate limit in Batman but it didn't help......still chokes where it did before. Not sure if that suggest it is a different problem to the one affecting other games or not....

If anyone is interested in unlocking the framerate there's a file in the WB Games/ Batman AC folder in My Documents called bmengine.ini. Open it up and search for bSmoothFrameRate. You should find 3 entries - change all of them from 'TRUE' to 'FALSE'. Save the file with a name of 'bmengine.ini' and make sure to change file type from 'text' to 'all'.

If that doesn't work you may need to create a brand new text file with all the text copied & pasted from the original (making sure to add the changes mentioned) and immediately prior to saving it delete the original file.
