Stuttering 6XX and in what games?

Please take note that I am using a 120hz monitor. I don't know if it matters or not but in regards to batman, I have tested four different drivers and went to the same spot in the game. This is the only driver to not only stop the stuttering but also it performs smoother when flying and diving, in and around the city.

I have just tested just cause 2 and rage alternating between in-game vsync and driver vsync and those games are also stutter free.

Never had a problem with dirt 3 or Far Cry 2.

1 word AWESOME,took a while to get the settings right but well worth it IMO. Don't think you'll regret getting them,if you do don't blame me!

I have a 120hz monitor too and have just retested Batman AC using the new 301.42 drivers at the point where the stuttering (slo-mo would be a more apt description) was most evident. Sadly it is just as bad as ever :(

The exact point where I get it is
in the area outside the office where you rescued Dr Baker. As you're heading along the walkway towards the flight of steps on the far side (which lead up to a door with an electricty sign above it) the stuttering happens as you pass some machinery on the left spitting out a ton of sparks

The core clock never drops from 1163 MHz on my card but the framerate briefly dips from 60 to 47 ish at that point, but the effect looks more like it has dropped to single digits. In game v-sync is disabled (but the game has been configured to only go as high as 60) and I get the stutter regardless of whether I have adaptive v-sync on or v-sync off completely in the NV Control panel.

I think I'm going to go through a few more of my Steam games over the next couple of days and depending on results make a decision whether or not to RMA the card (Windforce 670).....which is a shame as other than this issue it ticks all my boxes.

Edit: just to add another couple of games that I have had no issues with:

Alan Wake
Hard Reset

It's strange that people experiencing problems aren't necessarily hitting them in the same games as each other e.g. Hard Reset is smooth as butter for me but someone else has had issues with it.

Smooth as silk in BF3, but in skyrim I get stuttering inside when I look at door frames most bizarrely. My game is heavily modded, tweaked and running SSAO so I'll try stock.

Ingame VSync is off but I have adaptive Vsync enabled globally.

I haven't tried 301.42 yet however, and will try playing without vsync.

Company of Heroes is fine for me.

Along with Battlefield 3 as already mentioned.

Will try out world of tanks

A lot of people here reporting that 300.83 have fixed the stuttering, but I haven't read the whole thread yet.

Also, this is the stuttering I'm getting in Skyrim and STALKER Clear Sky, but I have to say I had it before with the GXT260s in SLI, so I'm hoping mine is a windows or mouse issue. I got a load of viruses the other day so I'm due a reinstall which I'll start tonight. Fingers crossed!

301.42 Bug List
VSYNC causes drop in FPS every 30 seconds on GTX 600 series cards - We’ve root caused the issue to a driver bug and identified a fix for it. The fix requires extensive testing though and will not be available until our next major driver release in June (post-R300). For users experiencing this issue, the interim workaround is to disable vsync via the NVIDIA Control Panel or in-game graphics settings menu.

Full Geforce 600M notebook Verde driver support is targeted for our next major driver release in June

3D clock speeds drop when playing games with certain factory overclocked graphics cards - Unable to reproduce at this time. We are continuing to investigate this issue and hope to provide a fix as soon as our QA team repdoces this issue in our labs.

Any one mind testing some source games ? (i.e. hl2 css), build my new rig yesterday, would be nice to know what to expect in those titles in advance. Thanks

Any sec now...some troll who don't even own the card is going enter this thread and call you all fanboys lying and claim they know more about the GTX 6xx cards than you all do and derail the thread into oblivion into yet another Nvidia vs AMD thing :p

I had quite bad stuttering in Diablo 3, I took some advice from people on a forum suggesting that I install the vanilla drivers from the disk (300.83). The stuttering is almost gone now, it's still there a bit but no where near as bad.

Hopefully this works for others as it did me.

Updated.

So far it seems that the new drivers (301.42) are helping some but not all. 120hz monitors seem to help also. I have my settings as global and v-sync off in all games. Basically I have not fiddled with the NCP and only alter the in game settings.

Fifa 12 and Batman AC seem to be the PITA games for stuttering at the moment. Hopefully guys will report the settings/drivers/monitor/CPU they are using if they have problems or not in Fifa 12 and Batman AC and maybe we can deduce the problem and find a work around.

I hope not :(

Nice one. I have played Diablo 3 but not online (I have a guest pass for the first act). I will be buying it on the 28th and looking forward to it. I read on forums that a lot of the stuttering is with both AMD and NVIDIA and was purely down to the time of day playing. Blizzard servers struggling a lil me thinks?

Edit:

Just had a read on the EA Forums about the stuttering and it seems this stuttering is affecting both. I skimmed through TBH.

Some would argue Pot. Kettle. :p :D

Just had a look at the stuttering on youtube. I would be ****** if this was happening to me.

Also searching for a cure for Batman AC, it seems this issue affects 7970's also so maybe it is bad game coding? I read that turning off DX11 fixes it but this could be quite old and pre patch.

Lazy game coders or lazy nvidia? regardless, no one who spends money on rigs and games should have to suffer the stutter.

My set up is as follows:

Current Drivers: 301.42
Monitor: Samsung SA700 120Hz
CPU: i5-2500k @ 4.5GHz
Problem games: Batman AC & FIFA 12
Settings: For the above games I've tried NV Control Panel on Global settings with adaptive v-sync set to both 'on' & 'off'. Also tried enabling / disabling in-game v-sync settings. None help with Batman but using no v-sync resolves stutter in FIFA but this means very high fps and some screen tearing in replays.

I suspect the reason Batman still has issues is that although v-sync can be disabled the framerate is still locked to 60fps max. From what I can gather there is something in the config files called 'frame smoothing' that is set between a min of 24 & a max of 60fps.

I had been playing Skyrim mainly in the 'wilds', so have just gone into Whiterun to see if I can re-create the stutter caused by door frames that was mentioned earlier. I don't experience it but have seen some evidence of micro-stutters (despite not dipping below 100fps) but nothing on a par with FIFA or Batman, and not at any specific 'choke points'. Oddly the clock speed doesn't seem to dip when I'm playing either Skyrim or Batman and stuttering occurs but in FIFA every time it stutters I can see a corresponding change in clock speed.

I'm starting to feel that I'm spending more time looking for issues (you know how it gets!) than enjoying games so will probably RMA the card and wait a couple of months in the hope drivers mature, if that is indeed the cause. Does anyone know if I return the card outwith DSR (but still within the 14 day satisfaction guarantee period) if a refund is an option rather than having to take store credit or a replacement?

You all know the stuttering issue that Nvidia is trying to fix only occurs when Vsync is on or Adaptive sync is on.

For me it happens on the following games when I have adaptive vsync enabled

Skyrim.
Counter Strike Source.

I think this happens only when the frame rate is higher than your refresh rate, this is why it doesn't occur with 120hz monitors.

A lot of people seem to have reduced the problem by installing the drivers that came with the 680, the 300.83's.

Everybody I know who has a 680 has the stutter problem. And they all can recreate the problem by playing CS:Source with adaptive sync on. This is on 60hz monitors.
