Stuttering 6XX and in what games?

Thought I'd post a quick update.

I had a 670 and was getting stuttering with FIFA during gameplay and also a very bad slo-mo effect when playing Batman AC in the steel mill, whilst walking past machinery giving off sparks, and also some general stutter. Another member reported the same issue with Batman, but I think moving to the 301.42 drivers solved it for him.

In the end I decided to RMA and go for a 7970 instead. FIFA now runs perfectly so appears to be a 670 (driver) issue but Batman AC still chokes at exactly the same points, so in my case at least would appear to have been a 'false positive'.

I am glad the 7970 sorted out your prob and I can see your point on a game you enjoy playing (fifa12). It would wind me up TBH and good honesty on the Batman AC. This could infact just be a coding problem more than a driver problem.

I've moved to the 300.83 driver that came with the card, gave it a good hammering last night and the stutter I had in Alan Wake AN has gone.

Most users in the Nvidia thread report using this driver removes the stutter also so that virtually guarantees this issue can be fixed with a new driver update.

I think some took the stutering issue and made the most of it.

People are going to pull Nvidia on every little issue since AMD usually gets all the flack for poor drivers, I've still not noticed any stuttering on my 670 other than a little in Diablo 3 when entering a new area, but that's an issue that Blizzard have confirmed is theirs.

It would be great to see if anybody who did have the stutter issue and found that the latest drivers either helped or didn't, please post here.

Things do seem a bit smoother in general for me with the new release... but I hadn't "noticed" any stuttering on the last release.

Must have just not detected it as there was a small improvement going to the new ones :)

Maybe the stutter problem isn't as noticable as some make out and the AMD fanboys have jumped on the bandwagon and made it a complete NVIDIA fail. Or it could be noticable and annoying. I looked on Youtube for evidence but nothing was showing to speak of.

I am glad it has sorted the problem out for many though, as if mine was stuttering I would be dissapointed. I still expect a few AMD fans to keep this supposed problem running though and give it a mention when people are buying a new 670/80 :(

The thing is - I frequently run with vsync off and the problem is supposed to be most prevelent with vsync on.

So the extra smoothness may just be something else in this driver or it could be related... I don't know and haven't done any testing of re-installing old drivers to see if I notice a change again.

If somebody could video this stutter problem, that would be great. I am not sure if Fraps would pick it up or not but a YouTube vid showing stuttering didn't actually show much.

Shows the problem pretty well.

I realise it's D3 but it's not the streaming, it's the stutter.:(

This may be of help to those if they do suffer the stutter bug:

I heard the stutter problem doesn't happen if you play your games in windowed mode, have you tried that?

'Yeah, it is nice to be able to run the games smoothly, even if it's in window mode. Oh well, I guess it's a temporary fix for now. Sucks that's not it's not full screen, but at least it's smooth now and no stutters! '

Hopefully they will get it fixed for everybody asp.

I watched that vid twice and when he enabled v-sync, it was fine and he admits it is fine...Also my mate at work only plays D3 and he said he gets stuttering in certain parts and he is on a 6970.

Ok so my topic is really about stutters in Frames Per Second. Today as soon as i woke up and started to play diablo 3 as usual with 60fps no problems at all. I played it for a solid 4 hours and then went to work. I came back about 4 hours later to play and noticed that my fps drastically stutters at key points in time such as fighting or leaping with the barbarian. using ctrl + R has revealed that when i leap or go into battles that my fps drops to around 20 -30 then after the fight is over it decides to go back up to 60fps.I am fairly certain that it is not my computer as mine is fairly high end and it wasnt having these problems earlier. My specs:I7 2700kHIS HD 6950 2Gb16GB RAM1TB HDDASRock extreme4 motherboard.as you can see, my parts are fairly high end and shouldnt be the problem causing the fps stuttering.Im not sure if its this "micro-stuttering" people were talking about, but it wasnt having these problems earlier at all for me.

and this thread mentions the games latency (means nothing to me) but it clearly shows that both NVIDIA and AMD are having issues...

Maybe, just maybe this is a Blizzard thing? so many users of both AMD and NVIDIA having probs with stutter (look at the D3 forums), it seems a little harsh to single out NVIDIA as the culprit.

Like Straxusii, I believe this to be a cross platform problem and not exclusive to NVIDIA.

Edit:

Just found this and may be of some help to some...

Very clever workaround! Most impressive. :)I have good news for those of you affected specifically by the stuttering caused by hard drive read rates. Our engineers are hard at work on this issue and it should be fixed in an upcoming patch. At this time I can't promise which upcoming patch the fix will make it into, so please don't despair if a patch rolls out and the issue continues. We'll develop the fix, get it tested, and put it into a patch as quickly as we safely can. I mention the "testing" part because as we've learned in the past, nothing is worse than rushing a fix that breaks something even worse in the process. If any of you are longtime WoW players you might recall an old PTR patch for Burning Crusade where we fixed the special attack of a monster in the Barrens. The reason that fix was memorable is that the same code change also broke the biggest boss fight (Illidan) that was in the game at the time! It's an extreme example, but it highlights why we have to thoroughly test our fixes before we push them to your computers. It's a good thing! ^_^We absolutely hate it when people can't play our games properly, and we're doing our best to slay this particular dragon as quickly as can. Thank you again, and happy demon hunting to all.

Maybe not a card problem at all and a HDD prob?

Why is it a bad example?

When he changes vsync settings, as stated it's fine, so why can it be blamed on Diablo 3, it would have stuttered regardless if that was the case.

Therefore, why dismiss it?

Gregster, the point of the video was you asked to see what the stutter looked like.

Here's titan quest, with the same problem, first tested on a 560 which has no stutter, then the 680 with stutter, when vsync is switched off, the stutter is gone but the poster says it's full of tearing.

The underlying problem again is Nvidia's adaptive vsync.

Again the point is to show you what the stutter problem looks like, not that when you switch off vsync it stops.

The poster states that it was for the benefit of the Nvidia techs to reproduce the fault.

Some users still have stutter regardless whether vsync is enabled or not on the latest betas.

Because until it's resolved their end it's impossible to tell if it's the Blizzard issue or the nVidia issue. Simple as that.

Fine as an example of what it looks like but that's all. It doesn't hold up as an example of anything else at the moment due to the above mentioned point.

Well the stuttering example of diablo 3 is horrendous I'm sure all will agree, gamebreakingly bad as far as I'm concerned, whether its an nvidia issue or blizzards.

Its different to the 680 stutter I have seen on games like fifa 12 and Rage though.

Indeed. I don't get it as bad as that in Diablo 3 but every now and again in certain areas I will perceivably stutter every 15-20 seconds. It's annoying enough when it's that minor.

I think anyone who actually plays Diablo 3 will agree it is bugged. I played it for a while and can see it is a game I would like to get into but don't have the time just yet (I can see this swallowing up hours/days/weeks of my life).

Thanks for the link Tommy and I can see you was only trying to show the stutter but I think as this game is cross platform bugged and it isn't neccesarily NVIDIA only. I found several threads where NVIDIA owners who had this problem, had no other problems in any other game and they did mention they played a few on the list at the start of this thread, that had previously been reported as a stuttering game.
