Subaru-powered Toyota FT-86 gets closer to production...

It does look stunning, N/A only at the moment which is a little disappointing and Subaru has said they aren't going to be STi-ing their version either :(

Still will be interesting to see what they manage to get out of the 2L boxer and how fun it ends up being to drive

Thats crying out for a 2litre Turbo from the impreza. are they RWD? i cant see the article

Gorgeous car, if/when this gets produced. i am putting my name down straight away!

a lot of people prefer the V1 concept but for me the V2 concept looks mean as ****!

I love the interior as well, for some reason reminds me of the game Halo lol

Needs to be white with a black bonnet... which actually leads me on to my main issue with this, it doesn't look a thing in any way shape or form like an ae86. Looks more like a Supra.

"Functional beauty" is the theme of the car, designed by Toyota's European Design Studio. Both the driving feel and styling are said to bring back the spirit of Toyota's great sports cars - dating all the way back to the 2000 GT.

not from that article.. ;) but its not meant to actually look anything like ae86.. maybe some bits.. but not a 2nd gen of it..

It's an evolution of the AE86, a nice modern not-overly expensive coupe, with enough power and good driving dynamics ...

About time we had the return of affordable japanese coupes. They really made some corkers in the 90's but seem to since of gone out of fashion. Lets hope this is the first of many, I'd love Nissan to do a baby 350z aswell.

EDIT: One more thing, as much as I love revvy N/A engines they just can't compete with all the fancy FI engines in the competitions cars. As an owener of a 2ZZ-GE engined car, I know all to well how impossible and frustrating it is to eek out anymore power out of an already high strung engine. I'd like to see something 1.6-2.0 forced induction in these, they need to compete with Focus ST/2.0TSI kind of power IMO.

I've heard 226BHP from the 2.0l at 6500rpm in a car that weighs 1300-1400kg and is RWD. I think thats a lot of win!

Though a 300+ BHP turbo option is required for sure.

wow 8th generation celica looks nice

i'm joking of course, just think that it really fits better in the hole the celica left, but i can understand the marketing bonus from the ae86 association.

the concept shots seem to suggest a 2+2 with molded sports rear seats.

Will be interesting to see how this ends up being price wise - rumours were it was aimed at ~£20k but realistically I doubt that'll happen at the current fx rates.

I love the looks, and if they can give ~200-225bhp and 1300kg (or preferably less but I doubt that's gonna happen) I'm gonna be tempted,

They just need to actually make the damn thing already :p
