Sudden appearance of ads on OCUK site ??? **UPDATE: There will be no adverts**

I'm not seeing anything on my Macbook, work Windows PC or my iPhone.

Do I somehow have amazing ad blocking or is it somehow only seem people are exposed to them? :confused:

Considering the £10k+ worth of kit I've bought from them over the years, I wouldn't exactly class it as "free". I don't think I'm being unreasonable, I'm giving my feedback (one of the Dons has literally said "All feedback is welcome"), and stating that they will likely lose at least one customer's loyalty through this. Maybe that is unreasonable *shrug*, but thankfully I'm more than welcome to take my money elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I'm sure somewhere they've done the maths and figured that the expected ad revenue is worth losing a couple of customers over, but it's just disappointing that all it ever comes down to is the bottom line.

And i'm sure if i asked you'd tell me most of that was spent because the forums existed but we both know that would be embellishing somewhat.

If you want to take your custom elsewhere because of a single ad then go for it. Nobody's stopping you :) I'm quite happy for the forum to support it's own costs in some way as long as it's not obtrusive and an ad at the top of the screen - not withstanding the teething issues on mobile atm - is not obtrusive. And i stand by what i said; it's ridiculous that people think otherwise and you personally asked if this was the end of ocuk?! I'm laughing, can't you see why?

While my PC's are fine thanks to Ublock Origin and the Stylus XEN theme my mobile is not.

Anyone that want rid of them on Android who doesn't use a Pi-hole or similar you can use this:

Settings - > Wifi & Internet - > Private DNS

Select "Private DNS provider hostname" and type

dns.adguard.com

Then go to chrome://flags and search async and disable it.

Or

https://adguard.com/en/adguard-dns/overview.html

From the Android Menu home screen, tap Settings.
Tap Wi-Fi on the menu. The screen listing all of the available networks will be shown (it is impossible to set custom DNS for mobile connection).
Long press the network you're connected to, and tap Modify Network.
On some devices, you may need to check the box for Advanced to see further settings. To adjust your Android DNS settings, you will need to switch the IP settings from DHCP to Static.
Change set DNS 1 and DNS 2 values to following:
IPv4
For "Default" servers:
94.140.14.14
94.140.15.15
For "Family protection" servers:
94.140.14.15
94.140.15.16
IPv6
For "Default" servers:
2a10:50c0::ad1:ff
2a10:50c0::ad2:ff
For "Family protection" servers:
2a10:50c0::bad1:ff
2a10:50c0::bad2:ff

Can a Don please confirm there won't be any ads in the Adult 18+ section as I already pay the £4.99 / month fee for access.

Adblock...

But the signatures are worse than the ads on this forum. Look at the 3 above, pointless pictures all over the page :cool:

I used to go on overclock.net until all the ads started. Bit by bit they got worse.

They don't have a shop so funds have to come from somewhere with them.

Been there since it's changed? Much difference now.

overclock.net is far better for general PC hardware and overclocking talk/info.

Signatures are the profile pictures of this forum, since the profile pictures arent customisable.

They are essential for keeping track of who is who, especially when people change their forum name... - glares at @Yaayuh! -

Plus you can turn them off in the settings if you're a weirdo. :p

It's been many years since I've been on there. There's some very cleaver please on there that's for sure.

I'll login and see when I joined and sort of left

August 2008 I joined and 2016 was the last time I posted there.

Seen a post about my 2 hd5970 beast cards they were :D

Aye, tis true.

I've never really looked into how ad revenue works before... Do you get paid simply for having ads on a site or is it pay per click?

If it's pay per click... judging by the use of ad blockers in this thread, I'm imagining the income generated may be pretty low!

Well my first advert has appeared while been on 4G. The advert took me to a Richard Branson fake news website.

Here is the evidence.
