Additional income I'm guessing. And why not? The vast majority of us on here only buy stuff now and then but use the forum daily. If a few ads is all it takes to keep this excellent cesspit of depravity and knowledge alive then crack on, I'll even add an exclusion to my adblockers.

I only use Amazon occasionally, or Argos, but you don't see ads for other non-affiliated companies on their websites.

Its a strange thing to do. Why not make these banners advertise Overclockers products?

So what if there is a small ad at the top of the page? I just don't see that the big deal is? You know what is a big deal? The fruit at Aldi, head to your local store for the best prices and quality of fruit.

Disabling ads for logged in users would probably be a nice idea. Get the revenue for all the people hitting the site from Google fair enough.

(not that it bothers me, uBlock Origin)

Mobile (Android) Firefox + uBlock Origin will solve that for you. I switched to using Firefox on my mobile several years ago due to its ability to install and run uBlock Origin.

Then I would lose all of the integration I already have set up with my desktop chrome browser.

It's easier for me just to stop using the forums on my mobile to be honest.

And if I'm shopping around for forums, I might as well shop around for PC parts while I'm at it eh? :D

fine on the pc. annoying on the mobile, hopefully something more size-appropriate can be sorted.

also, 'love reading the snooty replies here. OMG an ad at the top of the page, i'm soo not going to use ocuk forums as much now. BWAHAHA.

Did you consider that maybe the reason we use used these forums (as opposed to others) is because they are were ad free?

Besides, it's not so much the ads themselves, as the message it gives out to the loyal customers who have been here for years and have almost certainly driven custom to the shop, both from themselves and recommendations to friends and family.

Lets be honest, OCUK are quite often not the most competitive on price, but they do (in my experience at least) have the edge when it comes to customer service and reputation. The forums are a part of that experience, and treating those loyal customers as nothing more than a cash-cow certainly leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Not too bothered about the ads as long as it's not detrimental to user experience. We get to interact with like minded people for free so I don't mind OCUK recovering server costs from advertising.

On mobile move the ad up above the title of the thread we are reading. Between the nav bar and the title of the thread is a natural break, I would prefer the ad to be there. I would avoid MPU (300x250) add and go down the mobile banner (320x50) route

On desktop/tablet the only natural place for an ad would be where you had the banner that always said noble chairs on the top right side of the page, to the right of the overclockers logo. A leaderboard (728x90) would look ok there. You cannot put an ad naturally within the content itself unless you do a full site redesign.

Also please consider a decent floor price like £0.50-£1 CPM so you do not get dodgy ads and malware coming through the ads. This is very important.
