Hello,

Ok, the summer is approaching and I want to be ready for this years infestation of thunderflies/bugs.

They are tiny black flies a few mm in length which get everywhere, maybe a week or two weeks in the summer we tend to get infested with them in East Yorkshire.

Last year, 1 decided to die behind my Viewsonic VX910 screen and believe me, the size of it, its worse than a cluster of dead pixels. Thankfully it was very close to the bottom of the panel. One mate of mine had litrally hundreds die inside his LCD TV, luckily for him the retailer saw how bad it was and replaced it but I am sure many companies just disregard the issue.

What's the best defence at stopping these little blighters getting into LCD flat panels and dying causing untold grief to hundreds of owners?

Now I have my shiny new Dell 2407WFP I seriously don't want them dying behind the panel on this.

Is it just a case of locking the room down and covering the panel with something? :D

ta,

Mike

Bloody hell - that sounds like a nightmare! You've got me quite scared now  I don't think it should be an issue up here in Newcastle for me, but you never know.....I too would be interested in hearing more on this

You'd probably need to completely seal the monitor as there are so many places something that small can get in.

Whatever you do - DONT do that - The bloody thing will get far too hot!!!

cling film should do the trick

Still you have the prob how will the heat escape? I dont have the probs with thunderbugs, my prob is flys. I live in the country and we get loads of flys in the summer, and I have to clean my screen every 3 or 4 days cos it gets covered with fly s***. It cant do my screen anygood cleaning it so often..

Im hopeing to buy the viewsonic 24inch whenever ocuk stocks them. Its going to be a real pain cleaning that screen every few days in the summer I bet

I've still got one corpse in my 17" TFT from last summer. I thought about cutting some nylon tights to tape over the rear ventilation holes. As that should allow heat to escape, but be sufficient to stop the bugs crawling in.

No idea about sealing the front between the bezel and screen.

Know exactly what you mean :) At work with the windows open we had loads behind the screens, but managed not to get any on mine at home as the room it's in never had the window open and it's a long way from the door which is sometimes open (if that makes sense).

Yeh, when they swarm I will be keeping my windows shut until they die down this year. ;)

I didn't even know this problem existed . I have roses in my garden, beneath my PC room window, and they attract greenfly/aphids every year. I also get lots of moths and insects around the lights, when the windows are open.

I'm surprised the monitors don't have some protection against this, like sealing the area between the backlight and the panel.

Just dont open the windows or doors, sure, it might smell after a while, but thats what AirWick is for . . .

Hehe, its more the melting summer heat which will bother me, but I might just not use the PC for the couple of weeks its bad and cover my monitor in a dust sheet. :D

why not just put some mesh type matrial around the window frame?? so you can have the window open and let air in but no bugs..
