I don't recall seeing a mention of silverware but he did state the next step in the development of his football was a bigger concern to him than money, which is admirable given the Russian Man City were supposedly in for him.

It was the website having a pop at Arsenal's lack of silverware. They were trying to be funny.

Arsenal fans are probably the most optimistic when it comes to new signings aren't they :D

It first occurred to me in the summer with the fapfest that was going around about bringing Arteta and Park into the club. Fair enough Arteta hasn't done bad but we've seen nothing of Park :p

The summer were pretty much all last minute buys as our situation was that bad . That song seems simple enough to learn.

I am just hoping we find Eduardo number 2 i miss that guy.

Apparently Podolski has turned down a huge offer from that Russian club because he wants to play for Arsenal... oookay. Personally I think if nothing else, Mertesacker could be a good signing if he talks the club up and helps get some of ze German playarz in red and white - it wasn't the only reason he went to Chelsea, but Torres did talk the club up to Mata quite a bit before signing - national bum chums and all that.

Pity most of them are happy to stay in Germany and play for Bayern etc.

exactly - those that dont mind leaving Germany usually end up liking the idea of a wonderful (hot) lifestyle in Spain for one of the big two over there, so even London clubs are going to struggle (without offering stupidly silly wages)

Fergie's flying French visit - Lille playmaker Hazard rumoured to be United manager's target

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson paid a flying visit to France on Saturday evening to take in Lyon's home game against reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille.

Ferguson's side take on West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, but the Scot squeezed in a trip to Stade Gerland.

French television pictures showed Ferguson taking his seat before the game and then captured him yawning after Lisandro Lopez had scored Lyon's second goal.

Reports suggest that Lille playmaker Eden Hazard was the target of Ferguson's scouting trip as the United chief contemplates summer signings.

Do want. :)

Podolski has the potential to be excellent for Arsenal, depends where/how we'll play him frankly. Ultimately Arsenal's important business will be who we can sell and for how much rather than who we buy.

We need a left back, CB, DM, one more winger and another attacking CM could depend entirely on if Wilshire comes back at his best without lots of niggling injuries or if he relapses and turns into a Rosicky/Diaby situation.

Problem is the increasing wage bill, we're most definitely at the point where we have to sell to buy, and homegrown could become an issue, not in replacing everyone. I mean Santos has been a joke, Squillaci, Gervinho, none of those would be homegrown anyway.

Ideally we need shot of Theo, Diaby, Song, Djourou, and that could be a much more serious prospect. Spurs have a good team that only really needs what, one striker, they are suffering more from a mentality problem than squad problem, Utd can play badly and still win as they are winners, Spurs are faultering as the pressure gets to them, year after year they'll build and become winners. Chelsea can afford to rebuild, if they finally shift the right players and bring the right ones in they'll be tough. Liverpool feels like they have screwed themselves for years by spunking their load on a 100mil of crap.

Newcastle again suffering from giving it up late in the season but with a great building squad they should improve year on year.

Arsenal, are currently moving the wrong way and Podolski alone won't change that, homegrown is definitely a reason we should keep Bendtner and get rid of someone like Walcott. Not sure if Vela counts or not, but has been looking better and better as he's actually getting games, however neither sound like they have any interest in staying to be treated like crap by Wenger.

Castles has been right before so maybe he has a bit of info.

RvP is a great player but i don't think i would want him at City. With Tevez leaving i would prefer Guidetti to get a chance then spending on RvP.

Arsenal face the prospect of losing a fifth player to Manchester City in three years after Robin van Persie provisionally agreed a contract with the Premier League leaders that promises to make him the division's best paid footballer.
City's proposal, which sources close to both club and player say has been accepted, is worth £10.9 million (Dh63.05m) a year, a deal that will place him atop the club's pay scale once Carlos Tevez, whose contract was worth £12.55m including loyalty bonuses, is sold this summer.

A transfer fee will have to be agreed with Arsenal for their captain, but with the striker's contract entering its final season, and City's offer almost £100,000 above the London club's pay ceiling, the Gunners will be presented with another strategic dilemma. Arsenal were forced to sell Samir Nasri to City in almost identical circumstances last summer.

City outbid all rivals, most notably Manchester United, by agreeing a €10m (Dh48.2m) annual pay package with Nasri - also entering the last 12 months of his contract - then waited for Arsenal's board to override Arsene Wenger's express opposition to a sale.

Van Persie, who turns 29 in August, has scored 25 goals in 27 Premier League appearances this season, underlining his status as the division's leading marksman.

Earlier this campaign, the Holland international publicly stated his intention not to discuss a contract extension with Arsenal until the season was over.

Asked about his interest in Van Persie ahead of last week's Europa League loss to Sporting, City manager Roberto Mancini confirmed his admiration for the player.

"I think Van Persie at this moment is one of the best strikers in Europe with [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and with Sergio [Aguero] and Mario [Balotelli]," said Mancini.

"I think if there is a good player who wants to leave a club, then we are interested. But if this player wants to stay, we don't have any problem. In my opinion, Van Persie will stay at Arsenal. I think Robin van Persie will sign a new contract with Arsenal because if Arsenal lose also Van Persie they will have a big problem."

Wenger responded by declaring over a recent history in which Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Nasri have successively moved to City at significant profit.

"We will not lose anybody to Manchester City, or to anybody else because we want to keep our players," Wenger said. "We want to keep Robin van Persie, that is clear, we will do everything possible to extend his contract, that is clear, and apart from that, I can only let people talk."

Van Persie is represented by Darren Dein, who negotiated the exits of Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henry and Clichy from Arsenal.

The son of the club's former vice-chairman, David Dein, the agent also represents Alex Song, Wenger's first-choice holding midfielder.

journo's making stuff up more than anything Im sure

(not sure why RvP would want to go to City anyway - unless he knows at least one striker is leaving, if not two.)

Not entirely convinced by that story to say the least (believe it or not City fans, for some players its not all about money :D)

When will people get over the tapping up thing, just about every deal in the past decade has involved tapping up.

Who in their right mind would put in a bid of anything over 5mil without knowing the player is interested.

Arsenal tapped up Chamakh, by the sounds of it, Arteta, we pretty much tapped up Cesc and half the other kids we've stolen from Barca. Its how business is done in general.

Its like Wenger, or Redknapp, they get all huffy when other managers talk to their players or about their players, and the next day they'll be doing the very same thing they got upset at other managers doing.

People don't get upset when their club is doing it, but somehow think its terrible when other clubs do it to their players. Fact is, who cares, can anyone seriously say RVP doesn't know FOR A FACT he can get a crapload more money from a half dozen other clubs and that almost all of them would be very happy to buy him if he asked for a transfer or waited a season and left on a free.

City and Arsenal could spend 6 months debating on a price then City could find out RVP isn't interested, or City can ask RVP, get an answer and spend the time working on a deal because everyone knows the player wants to go.

If I was a manager I'd prefer to know RVP wanted out today and start looking for his replacement, than wait till the end of a transfer window and panic buy again.
