He was involved in 27 La Liga games last season so bot a bad haul, 15 of which he started.

Still not enough for him to be thinking about staying though, hence the clause that if he doesn't play enough games his clause can be activated.

I have never got the impression that it was a catalan thing personally. Its just how barcelona work. They have a great lifestyle and style of football and live in a beautiful city. They have too many top players to accomodate so they sell them abroad knowing that when the time is right they can bring them home reasonably easily in most cases.

I agree but you will see that they are normally youth team players that have left early in their careers, Cesc, Pique.....and then returned once they have blossomed elsewhere, in his case he's given them loyalty for a fair few years and they haven't played him so from his point of view he may want to move to actually cement a first XI place.

I really rate Higuain and think he'll be a really good player for Arsenal if they get him.

He's scored 107 goals in 187 games, quite a lot of which are sub appearances for Real Madrid, which is pretty good.

Carroll move completed. Surprised we got £15m for him to be honest, but a £20m loss on a donkey is still hard to swallow.

Still boggles my mind as to why you lot thought it was a good idea paying £35mill for him a few yrs back:p.

£100k a week at West Ham though:eek:, would be hilarious if he ends up being a flop there :p

Well, and wages till he got loaned out at 4mil a year, and... he really was in the strongest bargaining position so its likely by not asking for a transfer and Liverpool being desperate to get rid, that he gets a "loyalty" payment. What stupid ass club first introduced them, idiots.

Managing to get a payrise to move when he isn't remotely worth it is pretty good going for Carroll, and insane for West Ham. Though with the rise in tv money when a couple years ago a smaller club was giving its biggest player 60k a week, that will move up towards the 100k mark. give a club 20-30million more, wages across the board will go up but it usually works out that those on the most get the biggest rises. IE 25k a week becomes 30k a week, and 70k a week becomes 100k a week.

Considering the cash West Ham have lost in the past 5 years though they should really be banking the cash rather than wasting it on players like Carroll and stupid wages.

Considering basically no one else on earth would buy him and the chances of him having other good offers were..... nil, why on earth did they offer him such a pay rise? These days it seems almost every club just seems to give in to these stupid clauses and stupid pay rises when they could simply say no, and wtf are most of these players going to do, they'll accept less because its still awesome money and better than they can get elsewhere.

You could try reading up on him or being slightly informed, he's both one of the best strikers around and is in great form and has had a great season.

19 starts in the league, 16 goals, 5 assists from only 56 shots, thats a goal every 3.5 shots, thats better than Cavani. last year he got 9 goals in 11 games for Argentina in 26 shots, this year he's on 7 goals in 10 appearances in 24 shots.

There are VERY few strikers that come close to his goals/shots ratio, the only bad thing that happened to him is Mourinho randomly prefering Benzema to start games. his main issue was being injured for half of Mourinho's first season at which point Benzema become his default starting striker. Higuains only "poor" season was that season half injured where in 16 games he still got 10 goals and 6 assists in the league.

Benzema has been better in the champs league than Higuain of late, but thats more to do with how Mourinho uses both players, Higuain tends to do be better at closing down and delivering the ball from wide. Not always the case but they usually bring on Benzema for a attack through the middle while with Higuain they tend to play deeper and let Ronaldo get forward on the break more with Higuain dropping in to a wide role. I don't think Higuain will have any problems in the future in the champs league.

However I just don't really see us getting him, maybe we will, maybe we'll actually go big on wages but I see that in general transfer rumours are 99% bull, and its most likely agent talk to pump up wage offers elsewhere. I'd be very happy if we got him, he's a quality finisher, and guys like him often get shafted at a team like Real because of one injury and being pushed out of a starting spot and Real wanting to make a big name purchase. Sometimes you get a Higuain, or VDV, or Robben, because the club has other things on their mind.

As always I get worried about Wenger, Higuain can cross pretty well.... please for the love of god if we sign him, don't play him on the wing just because he could be okay there. Buy a freaking striker, play him as a freaking striker, and stop dropping him(outside of protecting him) because you think Gervinho is great.

Ok not great form might have been the wrong words but he hasn't been picked much for a world class striker. If you read an earlier post I made I actually said he had a good strike rate but then again you wouldn't get your under hand insult in if you had.

Personally I think we have a good chance of getting him, with everyone chasing the flavour of the season we might just be able to sneak in and get him. If its done quickly though...

Bale or Ronaldo to United..............

Well that is according to the Sun anyway who claim that the Glazer family have given new manager David Moyes the go-ahead to break the world record transfer fee and splash out £85 million on either player.
Ronaldo's future in particular is being speculated on across all the papers after he tweeted on Thursday: "All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid is false."
A return to Old Trafford for the Portuguese superstar would be United's preference but the Sun says "if Ronaldo signs a new deal at Real, Moyes is set to splash a record £85million to land Tottenham’s double Footballer of the Year Bale."
The paper adds: "United’s American owners are determined the club will continue to be a major European force despite Fergie’s retirement."
The Mirror also claims the odds are shortening on a Ronaldo return to Manchester but they speculate on a different method on how the deal might happen.
They are claiming that Ronaldo's plan is see out the remaining two years of his Real contract, and then take a £60m signing bonus as a free agent.
"It seems Ronaldo wishes to remain master of his own destiny and that he will force Real to accept his terms," reports the paper
