Nothing there we didn't know already.
It's very possible (even probable) that the club asked him to give us another season and we'll let you go next summer. Unfortunately for him we're adamant that the clause in his deal doesn't force us to sell him and going from that interview and the emphasis on the promises Rodgers was supposed to have made, I think he knows the clause doesn't force us to sell either.
That's not the impression given from that interview at all, he said he can take it to the courts and that the PFA back him(suggesting that the clause is less ambiguous than Liverpool want it to be) and also mentions something people have been ignoring. A contract is NOT the be all and end all, frequently law can be interpreted one way or another, the manager and player had no reason to want a release clause with no release and if I were a betting man on who was most desperate for that clause being misinterpreted in their favour, it would be on Liverpool taking a fairly standard clause and pretending its something else.
We see a lot of this, players being made promises, staying an extra year then getting into fights with their clubs because the guys in charge back out on their promises. This was supposedly the situation with Modric, Bale now, Suarez and many others.
I still find it hilarious that Liverpool want to pretend Suarez was both utterly crucial to their league position, that they were incapable of playing without him and that he is worth more than many other better players... and that his consistently woeful behaviour and yearly 1/4 of a season ban should play no factor in his price.
I hope Arsenal don't get him, but it seems fairly clear whats been going on, it's also patently clear to anyone with the smallest amount of common sense that he isn't worth 50mil +.
Cm, loads of players get essentially begged to stay with promises made about being allowed to go next season. Henry, Vieira, Cesc, RVP to name a few, basically all of them had offers and could have left but publically spoke about having a heart to heart with the boss and staying for one more year, without a whole lot of fight for any of them(particularly the first two), outside of the price Cesc leaving that summer was ridiculously obvious the previous summer.
