I think a motivated and in-form Rooney is a better asset to a team than Mata, and that's still the problem. I'd not want Chelsea to have Rooney, as much as I'd love Mata, simply because, you just know Mourinho will get the best out of Rooney and he'll be banging them in for fun like he was a couple of years ago

There is a rumour going around that United and Chelsea are talking to each other on the quiet about Rooney with the potential for Mata to come to United but that is a rumour that was doing the rounds earlier in the window when Chelsea made their first bid so I imagine its just lazy journalism.

Fantastic IF this is true, but as you suggest I think its lazy journo's more than anything.

Sterling, Ibe, Aspas or even Henderson playing tucked in. With Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge and one of those in the side we're not going to be short of creativity or goals. Having another wide attacking player would be nice but it's far from a necessity.

Had it not been for Begovic then we'd have won by 3 or 4 on Saturday, just like we done a fair few times in the second half of last season.

Great creativity, don't seem to put them away easily enough.

Also heard that 'we'd have won by x y and z if it wasnt for the keeper post' or my preference the ref :p

I'd say we have a better squad at the moment.

You wont have a better squad until you have equal or better shared experience of the EPL.

History of the league is littered with good or great players who just havent got on with the top level here when moving from abroad, even before considering the geling aspect ( Im sure this happens in the other top leagues too)

Then you have to think about how difficult City found it last year after everyone thought they would push on to even more success last summer.

Too many changes at once is just if not more likely to completely unsettle any given team.

It's odd, on paper Spurs have a superb title challenging team. If every player performed to 80-90% of their best, we would have a stonking team and squad.

However, as Wenger and Ferguson have showed us, a team unit needs to exist and function and players then need to bring their best to work in that unit. Ferguson and Wenger have achieved results far exceeding the individual capabilities of those players. Spurs have made some fabulous signings but the key is whether AVB can get them all to play effectively together and quickly.

Last season we relied and played towards the Bale show. This season is a totally different proposition . We won't just be adding some better players, we will be entirely changing the way we play. I don't think you can make this many alterations to a team and still be successful.

I back Arsenal for fourth this year and who knows the year after.

First half of last season, yes but second half of the season we didn't have too many problems in front of goal.

no chance, Mata probably runs 2-3 times the distance Rooney does in an average match

Been great being a Spurs fan this summer, we've been buying early and not leaving it till the last day. We may be losing Bale and that left wing now weaker but overall our squad is a lot stronger. I only hope we play well this season and continue our usual early season form passed new year.

It certainly wasn't good before the window opened/the first couple of weeks as all that was being talked about was Bale leaving and that's about it.

Amazing how a couple of weeks can change everything and if I'm honest, whether Bale stays or goes is a side issue and I'm not fussed either way.

I'll probably change my tune if he does go and the results all go belly-up for us :p

.

Remember how Hazard and Oscar where meant to do the same for CFC last Summer?
(not knocking what either of them actually managed, but it was too much expectation on young inexperienced shoulders. They may yet grow into the two best players that team ever see, but thats still quite a few years away.

Thats also just introducing two or three new players to the 1st XI team, not.....6? as Spurs are trying to do

We've supposedly rejected an approach from Napoli to sign Skrtel:

I guess with Coates' injury and us no closer to signing a first team CB then Skrtel's going to be held onto for the time being. As Newbie mentioned earlier, there's some speculation that we'll go back in for Papadopolous (spelt wrong) in January. We were in for him earlier in the window but it looks as if we've been put off by a combination of the price and the fact he's taken longer than expected to recover from his knee injury.

all we've been missing since modric and VDV left is that spark of craft and the guile to split a defence. we relied on bale to do this simply by taking the defence out of the equation through either pace or shooting from distance.

if we do get willian and lose bale, we'll be set-up better to attack the box and with a finisher like soldado we should convert.

holtby needs to step up and sig needs to show what he can do. lamela would be a great addition too. our other area of midfield is well covered but chiriches and a lb would be a welcome addition for depth.

I'm really hoping Holtby gets a lot more game time this season, now that he has had a bit of time to settle in, some of his vision/passing when he came on as a sub was fantastic, just a shame that the strikers he was passing to had no idea what was happening :p.

Siggy will be fine, on another day he would have had 2 goals at the weekend and with his current positive attitude I think he will step up. LB is a bit concerning with BAE possibly on the way out but I didn't think Rose had too bad-a-game once he sorted himself out. I just hope he isn't going to be like Walker and relies on his pace to get him out of a sticky situation.

Hazard and Oscar were both very young, one being new to Europe, Willian is 25, Soldado is 28, they are adding some young players, but Willian and Soldado are very experienced and Soldado should prove to be hugely more consistent than Adebayor.
