Correct, if he goes out and ****es £30 million up the wall on another Veron, it's not exactly going to do his long term prospects with the fans etc any good.

I'd say it's more a section of the fans being annoyed that Moyes isn't called Juan Biestas or something similarly exotic!

Right back for me isn't a huge headache, I hate Jones playing there though, but when Fabio has featured for Moyes it's been at RB and Fabio himself said in an interview that's his position and it may one day mean that he and his brother can't be at the same club.

In terms of the wings it all really depends if they gain fitness back and Valencia finds his marbles somewhere. If Valencia & Young don't have a good season and get things going (I see them as the back up wingers) then they may well be moved on.

However if we hold onto Rooney & Nani, I think it'll be those two + Kagawa that function as some sort of 3 with Valencia/Young offering a more defensive option.

Zaha looks an exciting option from the bench and I imagine Welbeck/Giggs will get run outs between them on the left, along with hopefully Januzaj.

You forget our best right back, Valencia ;).

I would have thought that Van Persie up top with a three behind him made up of Nani, Rooney and Kagawa was a very good front line with lots of movement and ability.

I really like Valencia and think that his 'simple' approach to the game is often his biggest strength and weakness, he's easy to predict and easy to play against as a result, but he's still more than capable of taking a full back apart and his defensive attitude and work ethic are second to none too. Young is a bit strange, I think he would be brilliant as a first choice for one of the 'chasing' pack of clubs but he's nothing more than rotation / back up for Manchester United, however, adds to the squad depth innit :).

I would love to see (as I've mentioned) Manchester United go in for Will Hughes (even despite his age), I think Liverpool are in for him too, which could potentially be a great signing.

I think the realism of Moyes not wanting to waste money for various reasons and wanting to get a better view of what's available and more importantly fully understand the limitations of the midfield is why he's not signed anyone. I think there are certain players that any manager at a top club would want but they would cost a lot.

Do you think that Moyes is hoping that Fletcher can get some sort of fitness back too?

Januzaj, Zaha look really, really promising and I'm looking forward to see if Powell can make an impact in the midfield too.

Moyes needs to stop moving Jones about, he's a centre back, him and Smalling should be played more together in my opinion as they compliment each other quite well.

It's not all doom and gloom for United, I thought there was a very negative vibe around pre Swansea kick off and really didn't understand that. That was a big win in my opinion, Swansea are a very difficult team to beat and they were very good at home last season. It was a better win than say, Chelsea's against Hull featuring the love affair between Moureen and Bruce ;).

You're getting boring now Purdy, lamela replacing bale means they are significantly weaker

Also, they are getting Willian in because they are scared of spurs with him.... Heard it all now. Couldn't possibly be because they see him as a good player is it, not like he was the best player on the field when they played in the CL

I forgot they only signed one player, my bad

Can't really complain about Willian. We 'stole' him off Liverpool and Chelsea stole him off us.

Quite obviously a player whose sole motivation is money. I doubt he'll care about warming Chelsea's bench.

You're all assuming that kagawa a player who has done nothing of note in except maybe one game will mean we don't need to sign some better players. I don't know if you're trolling or being serious. There is a reason though why kagawa went to utd for 14 mill with none 9f the other big clubs trying to sign him. Strange that it wasn't long after we'd sold park though.

factor in a retiring Scholes an aging giggs, fletcher who isn't coming back any time soon plus a reliance on playing jones in mid field last season and I'm thinking pick one of any 20 million rated centre midfield plater and we could not help being improved from our current situation.

I agree with Purdy for what it's worth, well, not in that Tottenham will get fourth or whatever as I'm trying to not make any predictions, but that Tottenham have moved some very good players in to the team / squad :).

Lamela is a top player :), I don't think clubs just go out and 'replace' players like Bale either, Manchester United didn't go out and 'replace' Ronaldo much the same way Chelsea didn't with Drogba, and Arsenal didn't with... Henry, Dennis B, Veira, Pires or Van Persie. Clubs evolve and adapt, players are always replaceable, not identically but the club and team move on without them and hopefully, for these clubs are successful.

I love how bitter Spurs fans are. It's hilarious. Possibly the highlight of this transfer silly season, so far.

I think it's less about being bitter and more about being gutted. We accepted the fact Chelsea have more money to spend than us a long time ago, so it comes as little surprise that they can beat most offers we can make.

So because Willian wants to go to Chelsea (over Spurs), his sole motivation is money?

Nothing to do with them being in the top three, challenging for the title and being in the Champions League?

NO YOU MONSTER!!!

It is to spite Spurs dontchaknow, Chelsea will splash £30 million just to get one over on AvB!

Pretty sure money is also a huge factor in him going along with the ones you have mentioned lol.

Would be hilarious though if Willian changed his mind and went signed for Spurs instead.

If Mourinho wanted to get one over on AVB then surely he would have put an offer in for Bale, just to annoy him and Spurs fans even further:D.

BBC are saying the Willian to Chelsea deal is done

David Ornstein, BBC Sport
FOOTBALL
"Chelsea have agreed a £30m deal to sign attacking midfielder Willian from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala subject to a work permit hearing.

"The 25-year-old Brazilian was close to joining Tottenham after undergoing a medical on Wednesday. But it is understood Chelsea made their move at around 18:00 BST on Thursday, with a fee and personal terms agreed within 24 hours.

"Willian will undergo a medical before his work permit hearing takes place next week."

Well i can see why he would say that as other teams will now want top dollar for their players ie Cabaye is now rated at £20mill by Newcastle from what Pardew is saying. But nevertheless because we didnt snap up the players earlier, we will get raped on transfer fees and its going to be very difficult for us to get bargains now.

But what annoys me is that Gazidis said at the start of the summer, we have the financial power to spend big and pay big wages but as of yet, no huge signings have come in. If we havent got that much money then surely you would keep your mouth shut:p.

But if the rumours are true that we were linked with big names ie Suarez and Higuain for example then there must be some truth in that we have the money to go and spend £30mill+ on a player. Maybe it is Wenger thats the problem and is too scared of spending that much in case a big name player flops at Arsenal. But im afraid that excuse doesnt wash because other teams splurge big on players even though they could very well flop in the PL.

Thats the thing we do have the money and its true that if you buy earlier in the window it will be better and maybe cheaper too. however waiting until the end or with so many days to go, prices go up, then ur faced with a good player but for more money then wenger would spend, even though we have the cash.

Gazidis i tihnk said it to calm the fans saying we do have the cash, but it needs to be spent. Yep, look at man utd and Berbatov, sometimes u gotta spend that money and take the risk. If Bales transfer goes through and he flops or what ever happens, its a risk you take in football. I think wenger wants another Anelka for pennies who he can sells for 25 mil.

Phew, thank God it looks like we've nicked Willian off Spuds, they would've knocked us out of the CL spots if they had got him!!

Chelsea don't 'need' him but he's better than Moses & possibly Shirley and upgrading is what clubs do, don't know what the fuss is about.
Moses will probably go to WBA on loan now which will leave us with 6 AM & considering we play with 3 every game + 1 striker that's not a lot especially as we're likely to play >60 games again this season.
How many AMs do other teams have by the way?

Both PL games this season have been a sort of 4-2-3-1 formation with Lampard & Ramires playing in the 2, if we're going with a 24 man squad then it'll be like this which is pretty well balanced -

Cech
Schwarzer
Blackman

Cole
Terry
Cahill
Luiz
Bertrand
Ivanovic
Cesar

Essien
Mikel
Lamps
van Ginkel
Ramires

Mata
Oscar
Hazard
de Bruyne
Shirley
Moses/Willian

Torres/Anyone
Ba/Anyone
Lukaku

We may lose one of van Ginkel, Essien or Mikel too if the squad has to be smaller.

All that depth and you only denied Villa due to serious refereeing error! :D

Kagawa should be played behind RvP and Rooney/Welbeck/Hernandez. United have always played a 4-4-2 formation so I don't know where Kagawa would fit in unless one of the strikers is replaced.

Whilst Chelsea have a decent AM, your strikers are useless for scoring goals.
