He didn't say there was 'no need to strengthen'.

As per, reading isn't your strong point.

Thing is what pressure exactly is he even able to exert on rhe board? As the story goes you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince . Moyes ain't even puckering up while hundreds of millions move around us

I agree with Purdy for what it's worth, well, not in that Tottenham will get fourth or whatever as I'm trying to not make any predictions, but that Tottenham have moved some very good players in to the team / squad :).

Lamela is a top player :), I don't think clubs just go out and 'replace' players like Bale either, Manchester United didn't go out and 'replace' Ronaldo much the same way Chelsea didn't with Drogba, and Arsenal didn't with... Henry, Dennis B, Veira, Pires or Van Persie. Clubs evolve and adapt, players are always replaceable, not identically but the club and team move on without them and hopefully, for these clubs are successful.

It's worth noting that Henry/Walcott, Bergkamp/RVP, Veira/Diaby, Pires/Hleb, the latter being the guy brought to replace the former.

A replacement doesn't have to be bought after the guy he's replacing leaves. In most of these situations Wenger bought what he thought would be their long term replacements and in quite a few situations pushed the older player out of the door.

Likewise Lukuku was clearly bought as a Drogba replacement, he's incredibly clearly his replacement. Ronaldo is maybe the only player who wasn't replaced directly, but that's mostly because simply no one is remotely close to as good. Though even then Fergie bought a right winger to take over the starting spot when Ronaldo left.

Stoke bought the long term replacement for Begovic, before they let the keeper go.

Also if Arsenal are looking for a keeper how in sweet jesus is Begovic not top of the pile. THe club have CLEARLY already gotten ready for his replacement, they are waiting for a club to bid and by buying another semi expensive, decent wage keeper, they've also seemingly put themselves in quite a poor negotiating position. They can't hardly pull the "it will take a monsterous bid because we're screwed without him" line now can they ;)

No, I'm basing on the fact that he wanted to join Spurs in the first place and the fact that he's played for various Russian clubs despite his obvious ability.

He's only played for one Russian club, Anzhi. Before that he was at Shakhtar Donetsk, who won the UEFA Cup in 2009 (with Willian) and won the Ukrainian league for 4 out of the 5 years he has been there, regularly in the Champions League. Not exactly just playing for the money.

It was clear there was a big project at Anzhi, but it obviously hasnt worked out.

So because Willian wants to go to Chelsea (over Spurs), his sole motivation is money?

Nothing to do with them being in the top three, challenging for the title and being in the Champions League?

Of course it's about money and ego. At Spurs he would be joining a team that's going places and maybe challenging the big 3 in England. He would be a key player, there would be pressure (of the good variety) on him, but the satisfaction would be immense if he helped Spurs break through. At Chelsea he'll be just another player - in rotation - at a rich club earning more money than he knows what to do with. And I guarantee if he's successful he'll be off to Madrid faster than you can blink.

As a complete neutral, it's a majorly disappointing and boring decision. I hope spurs use the money to get a great player who's up for a challenge.

That's an understatement. The owner of Anzhi was blackmailed by Putin into investing into the club. The club only exists because of political motivation. Putin wants to integrate Dagestan into the rest of Russia and thus stop it becoming the next Chechnya.

anyone think this rooney mata swap could actually happen?

Mata's joining Liverpool on loan. Mourinho doesn't rate him and is desperate to screw Arsenal & Spurs over so he's loaning him to his mate Rodgers.
.... At Spurs he would be joining a team that's going places and maybe challenging the big 3 in England...... At Chelsea he'll be just another player ....

Just another player at a club already where Spurs hope to be. He'll earn more money, he'll play in the CL and be more likely to win major honours. As Moses said earlier, Willian owes Spurs nothing. He's well within his rights to take the best offer open to him and on nearly every factor Chelsea are a better option than Spurs.

What a weird thing to say, Chelsea have had many successful players and none of them have dashed off to Madrid.
Essien went there on loan and now's back apart from that I can't remember us selling anyone to them so I don't know what you're basing that on
If we wanted to keep a player we could match wages they offer so the only reason he would go would be for footballing reasons, but he's not like that remember, he only wants the dollah...

Glad that Chelsea got Willian, he'd have really strengthened Spurs from what I've seen of him, and we're (Liverpool) closer to catching Spurs than we are Chelsea...not that I can see us catching either of them, but still.

Probably the first time in my entire life im going to be watching the Utd and Chelsea game on Monday...2 teams i cant stand but this game is going to be interesting nonetheless.

Got my money on Chelsea just edging it but could end up as a draw as Utd still have a decent squad at their disposal. Either way it will be a good game for the neutral.

Real setup their player unveiling stage at their ground from pictures being shown on SSN right now. Looks like Bale could be a Real player very soon.

Do you really think Mourinho particularly wants either Mata or Luiz? Neither strike me as typical Mourinho players and there's been whispers since before he officially took over that he was open to selling both.

It looks like the only thing stopping you selling them is the possible negative reaction from the supporters.

I'll be extremely surprised if either leave.
