Lol, Real have made a bit of a hash of this. Ronaldo might get less goals and be unhappy as a result and unless Bale picks up the slack they might not have strengthened at all.

I would have said keeping Ronaldo happy was more important than buying Bale.

Has Ronaldo even scored this season??, i cant even remember if he has or not.

Real will be fine, not sure if they will win the La Liga title with Bale...in fact he isnt even guaranteed a starting spot according to one Real coach.

Whatever the outcome, it will be interesting to see how Ancelotti keeps all these ego's in check with Bales arrival.

Utd have been in for Fellaini (and Baines) all summer. It wasn't as if they decided on him with a week to go. And £4m can't be that meaningless if they were hoping (and bidding) to get him for less than £23m to begin with.

I understand what you are saying but just because we hoped to get him for under the release clause doesn't mean that we were not willing to pay more. You don't offer more money than you think you have to but then you can't be entirely surprised when you find that plan has failed and cost you more money in the long run.

We still haven't actually heard definitively whether or not Fellaini waivering his loyalty bonuses is what took it to £27.5m or if that is what United payed themselves.

I never suggested Utd weren't willing to pay more - they did pay more so they clearly were willing

I was responding to Purdy's claim that £4m to Utd is meaningless - it clearly isn't meaningless to them as they were trying to negotiate a cheaper deal.

As for the fee - Everton have announced the fee as £27.5m and their PR man has put a tweet out in response to this loyalty bonus talk which clearly states that Utd are paying Everton £27.5m. Azza already mentioned it here:

A general point on this loyalty bonus stuff. A sports lawyer that works on Premier League contracts said earlier in the summer that this talk that transfer requests result in players losing their loyalty bonus isn't quite true. He claims that players will get a loyalty bonus on a set date each year providing they're still at the club, regardless of whether they've handed in a transfer request or not. Of course there's the possibility that a player might have a specific clause in his deal that states that he'll get x amount if he's sold without asking to leave but that would be an individual case.

So if they had got Fellani earlier (for the 23.5 his clause was), then the addtional 4 million would have enabled them to buy this Bilbao lad easier yeah? In that sense the 4mill isn't meaningless I suppose....

Utd weren't willing to pay rather than not being able to pay. If Utd wanted to pay up for him they could have regardless of what Fellaini cost.

Unbelievable from Arsenal, all these smoke screens of Di Maria, Benzema, Suarez and then we go and buy the best of the lot!

Ozil is genuinely the very best player we could have attracted this summer. Still can't believe it got done, so many things could have ended that deal for us.

No idea what has gone on at Real Madrid, no matter what side of the fence you lean on, there's very little between Ozil and Bale as players (I prefer Ozil at the current time as he has more to his game and has proven it over 4 or 5 years), to value them at 45 million apart is just sheer lunacy and something I will never understand. Thank god for their idiocy.

Real have completely and utterly bummed this up and I think they'll be in for a shock very shortly. Would not surprise me in the least if Bale is playing for United in a few years.

LOL i would have loved to see both Di Maria and Benzema at Arsenal, kinda hoping come Jan, Real go and snatch Suarez leaving Benzema open for a move and we grab him:p.

With the addition of Ozil, it means that we can now attract the top players into the squad...still a bit disappointed that we didnt get a top class striker/forward to help ease the burden on Giroud but guess we have to make do with Bendtner and i hope he gives his all this season, one player i thought was wasted at Arsenal and now he has a second chance to make good for us.

Even Fabregas is saying that Ozil is the second best player in Real, which means a lot coming from him.

Its been shown time and time again that it is now teams that win trophies not individuals. You need star players but you are better off with a couple of focal points and then the team to enable those players to thrive. Messi wouldn't do what he does without the style of play at Barca and the same is true for Ronaldo.

The players that supply these guys and sacrifice some of their own headline moments for the good of the team are almost as important and by all accounts it is Ozil that has been doing that for Madrid.

arsenal just made ronaldo mad , rONaldo in January :)

Wouldnt surprise me if he now says to Real, thats it i want out. But the only issue i can see for Utd is if they want him back, how much are Real going to want for him??.

Looking at some of the ridiculous bids Utd have made for a few players this summer, it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if Utd offered £35mill for Ronaldo:p

Well if the Bale "transfer" rumours were anything to go by, Spurs are meant to get £10m if Bale is sold to a premier club within 4 years. So hopefully we can buy him back for £50m and get another £10m back as well.

:D

Yeah I'd have liked a striker but I'm prepared to wait until Jan/next summer for a top class player than rush in somebody a bit rubbish, the loan for Ba would have been great but Mourinho stopped that.

I watch a lot of Real, I seriously can't fathom why they have sold Ozil, for any money at all, he was clearly their second best player and made Ronaldo work. The players all seem confused, their fans were chanting don't sell Ozil at the unveiling of their 100m player. It is seriously confusing. He's just one of those players who you would never fathom was on the market. Maybe he stinks really badly?

Di Maria and Benzema are pretty rubbish by the way. I hope we steer well clear of both. Benzema has been getting boo'ed by his own fans for the last 2 or 3 weeks he's that bad, not that Real fans are sensible ..

Which would just about cover the tax on the release clause :D

Swapping Ozil for Bale will weaken that team, no question about it. It will be less functional. I can only imagine Perez had a bad few weeks and needed and ego boost for whatever reason, there is certainly no football logic to explain these moves.

Really?? i thought both Di Maria and Benzema were decent enough. Benzema is banging them in this season and Di Maria was providing a few assists from a few of the games i have watched.

But im not a huge fan of both of them especially Di Maria as he seems to dive around a lot.

But now that Bale has gone there, i will be paying more attention to how Real do as i want to see how well or how big a flop Bale will be there.

And yes i did watch the unveiling live and it was quite unbelievable that Real fans were chanting dont sell Ozil lol. The fans know just how big a loss he is along with the Real players. Wonder how welcome Bale will be made to feel when he joins up with them.

At the moment im on cloud 9 with the signing of Ozil:D
