£41m + £4m add-ons for Jota is what's being reported tonight with Hoever going to Wolves for £9m + £4.5m & a 15% sell-on clause. Hopefully we've got a buyback option in there too.

How do transfers work exactly? I mean, does that mean that without Hoever, it would have been 50m for Jota? Or does that mean its actually 32m for Jota? Why was it not a player plus cash deal, £32m plus Hoever, if its a player plus cash deal, does the agent not get a cut or something, or does that limit the clauses put on the player part of the deal (ie, you couldnt then put a sell-on clause on Hoever)

Separate deals I saw with a 15% sell on for Hoever.

Yeah I'm just trying to understand how the deals work, we wanted Jota, they want Hoever, just wondering why given that its money between the same two parties, it wasnt just a case of ok tell you what, you give us 32m + Hoever and thats a done deal. Rather than heres 41m for Jota, ok now, tomorrow you give us back 10m of that for Hoever. In essence, why it wasnt a player plus cash deal for Jota. Unless maybe you cant then stipulate clauses like sell on etc on player plus cash deals? Or it means signing on fees or agent fees or something are affected if its a player plus cash deal rather than a straight sale? Its like me buying an Xbox off a mate for 100 quid and then him wanting to buy a bike off me for 30 quid and giving me 30 of the 100 back, why not just give him the bike plus 70 for the xbox (simple analogy I know :D )

Not sure but as you're effectively financing Jota over the next few seasons maybe Hoever is the down-payment?

Plus for accounting the players values have to be separate to work out the depreciation of the squad as a whole?

Gotta say I'm surprised Liverpool got Thiago for €30m, obviously that's loads of money but when you see the prices players go for these days, other clubs from the same city paying more than that for Iwobi, £72m for Pepe etc, it looks good value.

Pepe is a kid though. You are paying for the future.

Jota has jeopardised his career going liverpool he will never be a regular with mane/firminio/salah around

Cup games at best he's now a 40 million bench warmer

wasnt starting at wolves?

he started 34 league games and 14 european games last season alone

Games featured in.

Prem stats were 27 starts and he only started 3 in the Europa League. He has been in and out of the team over the past 12+ months, streakier than bacon. Presume Espirito Santo is thinking of using a 352 more than the 343 at times and expecting Silva to make an impact. Prefer Podence to Jota personally, more dynamic.

Even when clubs swap players, each deal is done independently from an accounting point of view as players are seen as assets with a book value.

The Hoever and Jota deals are completely separate, however I doubt that we've transferred x amount to Wolves for Jota and then they've transferred x amount to us for Hoever. Reportedly, of the £41m we're paying £4m up front but that most of that payment has been offset by the initial payment for Hoever. Nobody reported the initial installment for Hoever but for arguements sake lets say it was £2.5m. I'm sure that we'd have simply transferred Wolves the £1.5m difference between what we were due to pay them and what they were due to pay us.

I think it's a good signing all round. Jota has always looked decent when I've seen him, albeit that's not loads, and he has a knack of scoring against Leicester :(

He'll have a year as understudy before Salah goes to Madrid :p

Bingo. We were overloaded there. £45m even on finance is good business.

I didn't realise Salah liked golf and bench warming that much?
