You know I think you might be surprised, if you did a poll of who thinks a man sans his penis is a woman, that those of us who reject that delusion are not actually the minority.
Live and let live, sure, but people don't have to conform with someone else's delusion. It is very sad, but not for the reasons you think. Mental illness is always very unfortunate.

It is strange that a few on here want to gatekeep this so hard- it may never affect us, but there are far to many accounts of people being intimidated when they dont want to get involved with a trans person.
The people who do that are convinced, not only that their viewpoint is right for them, but that it is right for everyone.
They are far more authoritarian than you or I, who simply want the right to reject their warped ideology. But they can't have that. They need everybody to accept the things they accept, like a man without a penis being a woman if he says so.
I'm not sure what happens when that man later says he was never a woman at all, just a deeply troubled man, and regrets everything. Who was "right" then? The trans advocates? The man who was a woman and now isn't again? Or those like you and I who just find it all very unfortunate, because mental health isn't something to be made fun of. I don't dislike trans people - I dislike those trans-advocates who insist we should all honour whatever sex a person ascribes to themselves, regardless of the physical evidence and regardless of our own wishes (which it's always fine to override).

What I object to is your over-simplification of the issue. There is evidence coming to light that genetics and hormones play a role in determining sex (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-01237-z), meaning that there are scientifically recognized non-binary genders.
