US: Supergirl (Arrow/Flash team)

You can tell how badly we need a female led super hero series by how many of the comments in here are that she isn't hot enough :/
it's not about being hot (as I said it's not like the person playing her is unattractive), it's about being true to the supergirl image, she isn't even blonde

I'd have the same issue if they made a series where black panther was played by a white actor (he's a black African prince)

Hair colour has absolutely zip to do with the character. You can even see with the new Fantastic Four that they've changed the ethnicity of a character. it's fine, back when these characters were created nearly everyone was Caucasian. Changing minor things like that doesn't change the character.

And yes several people have mentioned she's not hot enough.

I'm really not sure DC are going about introducing all their heroes in the right way. Marvel have done it so well with the way they did individual films for each hero, but carefully started to link events and introduce other heroes into those films, and created Agents of Shield, Agent Carter and Daredevil (along with several others yet to be released) to support and expand the MCU and give Marvel a presence on the small screen. They've obviously thought about things extremely carefully, and I just don't get the same impression with the way DC are doing things.

Yup marvel nailed it properly in fact its got so big and popular and is on that roll I love how the tv shows remain part of the universe but seperate, even if an marvel endorsed tv series failed it could still remain on the back burner, DC just kept the universes separate which may confuse new fans or dc fans we even had internet debate if arrow could pop up along side man of steel/ DC + films on the big screen....answer being not really I think.

Here is hoping fantastic four/xmen reboot within the marvel current universe or partner up like sonys spiderman has.

To me it does, wonder woman has brown/black hair and supergirl has blonde hair. Changing the sub characters like Iris (and her Dad) to fit into 21st century diversity requirements should be more than enough.

As to fantastic four... did you not see all the complaints about the whole movie being wrong. The basic view is that they might as well just call it something else because it's so unfaithful to the comics

When it comes to comics there are certain things about characters which define them. Did you not see all the issues over Jason Momoa as Aquaman or the comments over how small the horns were on the latest Batman. There's been complaints over the suit for Captain America, the suit of wonder woman in the next movie being brown/gold etc.

I'm all for mixing things up and freshening the costumes up with modern materials etc but to me they need to keep the essence of the character true to the comics which in the case of supergirl is blonde hair, the slimmer figure (as bad as that sounds) and the red/blue/yellow suit.

It's in the same league as the new thunderbirds series making Brains have an Indian accent... it's just wrong

Yes I see that people are stupid. There will always be a very vocal minority that complains that the engines on the Enterprise are too short but these people frankly don't matter.

You're complaining about superficial things, literally saying she's overweight...and you wonder why we have sexist claims against the genre...

You're misinterpreting what I'm saying. First I actually said shes attractive and I have not said she's fat (she's perfectly fine weight wise), I'm referring physical proportions in that she doesn't seem the right 'fit' for playing supergirl. It's like picking dwayne johnson to play Nick Fury, it just wouldn't look right.

Melissa Benoist is 5ft 8in's tall, that's pretty tall for a woman but she looks really short in the trailer and imagery, supergirl doesn't have that appearance, she has a tall and slim appearance (in most cases). Laura Vandervoort is 5ft 6in's tall, so 2 inches shorter yet she has a more supergirl vibe to her due to her figure and blonde hair.

Now do you see where I'm coming from, it's not about weight or height, its about proportions in relation to the comic character (obviously I'm not looking at barbie doll type proportions).

Actually the opinion is unanimously bad right across the internet across all the forums i go too. It's the ones that like the promo that are in a minority

pointless fact

Marvel actually based Nick fury on Samuel L jackson, Samuel actually found out and was ready to sue but instead suggested he be the only choice for any feature films........Marvel agreed.

After Smallville this super girl trailer would look fantastic, Smallville fans only got to see a 30+ year old guy don the cape and S costume (from superman returns) and actually fly after what 10 years and 10 seasons, and we only got to see it for the last 20 minutes or so.

Its an interesting take on super girl but yeah her story and character was not really shown too well in smallville and she was rare to turn up in fact she was more powerful if I recall and already had flight while CK did not.

Not sure why these trailers are coming in so early though especially if these shows are coming this fall/2016 ?

What?!? So when Fury first appeared in the mid 60's, Marvel already knew they'd want SLJ 50 years later? Mind blown :D

Edit: or are you on about ultimates?

I think he's talking about just the movies. And bringing that up doesn't help his argument, since Fury is white and fairly well built in the comics (far as I know). :p

Actually, Dwayne Johnson would be a near physically perfect match for the Avengers Nick Fury. Sam Jackson's Fury is from the Ultimates Universe, which is an alternate version of the Avengers.

Mark Millar (writer of The Ultimates) on meeting Samuel Jackson on the Kingsman set

Mark Millar said:
The first thing I said was I hope you don’t mind me completely exploiting your appearance in my book thirteen years back, and he said, "****, no, man. Thanks for the 9 picture deal."

:D
