******* supermarket "butchers"

It's like any other meet. It'll only last a limited time in fridge. Usually not worth it, unless you can freeze, due to postage costs unless up you spend enough.

really fancy trying something different, maybe ostrich or bison :)

anyone know of a glasgow based butcher who stocks either?

. They had a power cut this week and messed the meat box up completely, only got like 20% of the meat. So will see how they handel it this week.

Fantastic and fast response. Replied to my email within a few minutes despite it being after 5pm. Seem it was probably my fault for not confirming order when editing monthly box, is their best guess. As it was Totaly missing of the order.
Anyway offered a few solutions and took the refund.

Anything beyond novelty value in that stuff? Just seems like the sort of thing you might get as a gimmick in a touristy restaurant on holiday.

I would take it back and complain... you expect more from Waitrose.

linky for supplier?

Some of it was good, others wasn't wonderful. I didn't pay for any of it (won it in a raffle). There is a thread in here about it which I had high hopes for but never really bothered with in the end. IIRC, the Zebra was pretty horrible. Boar sausages made a fantastic toad in the hole.

It's from Kezie Food. A fair few people ordered from them from here after seeing my post.

Yep, the sausages are rubbish other than that they're very good, although a few annoyances. All the joints come in 1kilo bits, I'd your order two, then you get two*1kilo bits, although the weight is always over 1.2-1,4kilos. They had a power cut this week and messed the meat box up completely, only got like 20% of the meat. So will see how they handel it this week. But overall as long as they sort this issue out I've been very happy with them. Although I am going to try a different one out after Christmas. See how that goes. Want a smaller meat box so I can get the cornsihfishmongers fish box as well.

Hi there. I'm James, co-founder of field&flower, and I spotted your posts recently. Just to update you - we're trying to find a way that you can order a 2kg joint rather than two 1kg joints. This is something our web company are currently working on. You can do this in the Farm Shop section but not in the Monthly Box section. We're very keen improve our sausages and your feedback would be welcomed. Maybe we can send you a pack free of charge in the New Year to get some feedback on an improved recipe we're working on? Unlike many sausages on the market we don't add any preservatives, additives, flavourings or gluten, and they are about 98% pork, using meat cut from the shoulder and belly of traditional breed free range pigs.
We're very sorry about the powercut, obviously we don't ever envisage this problem occurring again. If you'd like to email me at [email protected], we can make sure we get these sausages over to you. Best, James Mansfield

Hi James, welcome to the forum.
Thank you for the knd offer and I will gladly take you up on it.

You have a great business and in this expanding market, you have a unique and great thing going with the points system.
I've been very happy with the produce. The power cut and error, will always happen and for me, it is how it's dealt with. I think it was you yourself who handled it, and all I can say is it was first rate customer service , you replied within a few minutes despite it being ~17:20, helpful, polite and sorted promptly. Even though it was more than likely me, not hitting the confirm button.

I'm off out know, but will post a longer reply tomorrow. Would love to hear your future plans and bombard you with a few ideas and what I see as a few errors on the website.

Happy new year and I hope 2012 sees your company grow even more.

Did you have any Crocodile in that mix? I did once have crocodile when I was in Germany and remember it tasted fantastic. It's £12.50 on their website so might take the plunge along with the Kangaroo starter pack.

Anyone else ordered from these guys after seeing the link?

I can't remember to be honest, I don't think that I did. Some others have ordered from there. Search for the original thread, it was 'exotic' or 'unusual food', something like that. Just look at my profile then look at all the threads I've started and some people have posted some things in there.

What great customer service! Some of your game looks very tempting, by the way ... might see if I can lay my hands on some in a week or two.

The steaks you get at Waitrose (or any other supermarket) are cut off by some pillock at 4 in the morning when the happyshoppers go round getting your order (the folks with the little carts who do your shopping for you and then stick it on the wagon). I -never- buy this sort of stuff without seeing it first, though I do have a very good butcher who gives me meat in return for freshly caught trout after I've been fly fishing. ;)

I have. So far, we've had kangaroo, kudu and horse steaks, diced llama (which sadly ended up in a rushed curry) and wild boar sausages. It was all pretty good stuff, but nothing really jumped out and made me think that I would go out of my way to buy it again with the exception of the horse, which was delicious.

i am lucky to have a wholesale butcher called meatline in maldon. better meat than any supermarket and very good prices.

:p

I'm not sure how best to describe it. It was much nicer than beef, had a lot more flavour and seemed a lot less fatty. I had it rare and it was, in all honesty, beautiful meat. Need bigger steaks next time, though. :p
