Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Why not just drink Coffee and/or Taurine? that seems a bit pricey/overkill.

Wont be ordering with Bulk Powders again, they still havent shipped my order and im out of protein

From what I can see, this is a weight gainer.
If you are looking to gain weight/muscle, then this supplement will do that (in addition to good food, of course).

As for Maximuscle - I used to use their protein about 15-20 years ago.
Once I discovered bulk protein availability, I realised that MaxiMuscle (like Apple products), are vastly over-priced.

I remember I used to buy protein from a place called the Whey Consortium. Long time ago.

Just after a bit of advice.

I'm looking to buy some more whey protein but MyProtein have just bumped up the shipping costs here which adds 1/3 extra to the cost of 2.5kg bags. Is this stuff still considered one of the best to go for or are there other cheaper alternatives please?

In my unsupported opinion, I think it's gained a slight cult following that it doesn't deserve. I used it and found it to be the same as any other good quality protein, and it tasted rank.
For me it's by no means in a league of its own. Just don't buy anything chocked full of sugar.

The cult following was well deserved back when they first started up as they were pretty much the only bulk supplier back then that offered good prices and good quality no filler products, unfortunately that has slowly changed as they've grown and been bought out by The Hut group.
These days there's plenty of cheap bulk suppliers to chose from, bulk powders, the protein works, go nutrition and a few more who's names escape me right now.
The protein works is ran by the original directors of MP and go nutrition the original owner of MP.

I always found The Protein Works to be prohibitively expensive.
They have an array of flavours (which I think is where their niche is).
For unflavoured whey (which is what I buy), MyProtein and Bulk Powders seem to be the cheapest.

I've just checked the pricing.
unflavoured, WPC,
TPW, 4kg, £45 (5kg >> £56)
Myprotein, 5kg, £47
BulkPowders, 5kg, £47

TPW are expensive. The flavoured whey pricing is even higher.

To be fair I've never paid full price from there I've always had a good amount of referral points to spend.

Hey All, I'll try to cut a long story short.

I used to lift moderately about 2 years ago, about 4 times a week just to keep fit and healthy. however since then, I've gained a ton of weight since I stopped doing most forms of exercise.

Now my problem is I used to go with a friend, who doesn't go anymore. and I've got tired of excess fat that I carry around. It's making me lethargic, unreponsive and generally unhappy because I'm not active.

I don't eat any biscuits/crisps/cake/pop but I will eat whatever my parents cook me, which is usually normal meals (spag bol, Fajitas, Chicken with veg etc). so my diet is just about as normal as anyone has (though I tend to avoid potatoes or anything with cheese/cream in).

Can anyone recommend a supplement that'll help me?

I'm sure many will say I don't need it, and some will say that I'm best taking Whey or something, but I'd rather collectively gather information and try it out to see if it's for me.

Any advice is welcome :)

Dude. I'm a huge advocate of supplements BUT, they should ideally be used with exercise.
Do exercise. Get in the routine.
Then later on if you want to take it to the next level, look at supplements.

If shifting the fat is what you want to do, then get active. Those who dont like to run/cycle/swim/ski, take up a sport that they enjoy. So that could be the way for you, as motivation seems to be your problem.

If you really want to take a supplement, get some caffeine pills, take 100mg worth. That'd be pretty harmless, is cheap and that should get you "buzzing".

I still contend that caffeine is one of, if not the best legal supplement that money can buy and you should see results within 20 minutes of ingesting the pill.

All the best with your training.
