support for the british worker

Manufacturing becomes less sustainable the more a country develops. The more a country develops, the higher the standard of living of its citizens. The higher the standard of living of its citizens, the higher the wages they demand. The higher the wages they demand, the higher the cost of having a manufacturing base in the country and the higher the cost of the products the country manufacturers.

Germany, japan, developed nations with big industries

i was just talking about british products not the jobs.

Yeah, but you're not happy that British jobs are being given to foreign (Italian) workers. Now, what's the problem with the Japanese getting us to make their cars? As you have to remember a lot of it will actually be manufactured in the UK. So a Japanese company is helping British industry and this is a problem because it was designed by the Japanese? Seriously, what?....

they arent doing because they want too, they are doing for various reasons, tax being one of them.

you are muddling the point i am making. i am not against investment into this country far from it Britain has been at the forefront or nearly all industrial and technological achievement in the last 200 years and for good reason.

Ok, all well and good. But how does construction work (essentially) going to cheaper legal european workers affect this?

The simple point is, the original problem this thread was created for is due to consumer demand for low prices making companies go for competitive, hopefully legal processes to minimise costs. Now times are getting harder what we as consumers have created is now being attacked, and when prices were to go up because campaigners were successful the companies would again be attacked. This is a case of not being able to have your cake and eat it.

In that video I have just watched, half of the people speaking can't even string a decent sentence together.

British jobs for British people - Hhmm, does this mean we'd have to bring back the 11million british expats 'stealing' jobs in other countries?

Manufacturing is not about speaking the Queens English, look at what silver spoon bankers and stock brokers has done to the world, absolutely ruined it for out generation and the generations below us.

And what about those who have not got the skills to be trained or who education is not an option you are assigning them to the scrap heap the underclass a lot of these people like to work manual work but deserve the right to an honest days work for an honest days pay. Are you saying we write this people off to a life on benefits?

Do we really want to live in a society that rewards non productive low skilled labour? I don't think so.

If people don't have the skills, then they 1) should undertake activity that would increase their skills. 2) accept that they are going to lose out on employment to other more efficient individuals.

we need the majority of our nationals to be in employment not stuck at the bottom just so we can provide jobs for those who are more fortunate to have a better education from other countries.

Full employment isn't going to ever happen, and again I'd rather we live in a world where comparative advantage takes place. It lowers the cost, it is more efficient and is less wasteful of our limited resources that we have in the world.

"British jobs for British People"

*cringe*

Social and employment mobility are key factors in our now globalised economy, we can sit back and suffocate ourselves or alternatively, we can invest in ourselves (whether that be through education, skills, training etc.) and keep competing with other countries with the best educated, talented and world class citizens/employees.
