*** Supreme Commander 2 ***

Well I've played through, it's OK, but still has a lot of things that annoy me. Few more I've noticed...

All units regenerate health. Not sure on this...
Air power. No fuel to worry about.
Shiled generators. Don't sap power to run.
Tech tree. Would be better if it paused the action whilst in the tree. I find I can't read the descriptions and see what it progresses to and I just randomly click along.

Can't think of anything else...

I like the basics of the game, but the art style leaves much to be desired.

I especially don't like the almost-fluorescent blue player color and the horrendous shield impact effects; much preferred the old style from SC1.

I like it, not drastically different from the original other then research stuff really, pre-ordered through steam, every new game seem to be getting slated at the mo.

I ended up buying it despite my criticisms :(
There's sod all RTS's to play aside from AoE3, and Bored Alliance. I just have to keep convincing myself that the demo is just a campaign demo and the skirmishes will be better :o

I personally loved it and was holding judgement until it comes out, but after playing the demo and speaking to a few people on the main forum I decided to go for it.

Cant wait till Friday and I have a week off :D

I havent played the orginal myself but I think the controls are horrible in this, particularly using dual screen. Is there any way to remap the directional keys to wasd? I cant pan right because it just goes to my other screen and using the directional keys is just akward. There is an option in the menu to 'lock cursor to screen' but that doesnt seems to do anything? Maybe it will be fixed in the full version?

played the demo wasnt too keen to say the least. Played the original and FA but this doesnt have the appeal this time round for me. maybe its teh draw of BFBC2 coming out on the same day... but heck no doubt i will get it down the line if peoples reviews are positive

Hopefully it'd be fixed. I know in Supreme Commander you just moved the view around by zooming out and back in where you wanted quickly, for some reason it always seemed better than scrolling, even over small distances.

Sorry, did you actually play the original?

Yes i did thanks. I dont think its hugely different just a different way of building and upgrading really, all of the anal details people are whining about i dont think matters. If your that obsessed with the original then just stick with that one.

erm being able to form your units up isn't an "anal detail" it's pretty vital especially with the reduced rang on units.

A big square blob of units ain't all that strategic.

Anal details? I'm sorry but you're definition of anal is screwed up. Tefal already said formations is a huge change strategically. Units randomly forming into a square is about as strategic as a chocolate kettle. The resource system just went from different and innovative in TA/SupCom to the bog standard resource system that every game uses for absolutely no reason. The huge variety of units has shrunk to practically nothing. The scale of the game just feels tiny by comparison with fights between units seeming like scripted events rather than dynamic chaos. Research just shifted the entire progress of the game towards spamming Research Centre's to get a tech tree advantage. And so on.

It doesn't matter what you think of the significance of each change, they've made so many.

This was going to be a pre-order from me... Oh how disappointed I am.
It just seems like Supreme Commander Lite, looks like more has been taken out than added. I guess I'll be playing SupCom 1 for a while longer...

I tried this earlier but the demo didn't seem to work, I could only see water and a blue robot on the screen? Not had problems running any other games

Eurogamer Review

Campaign is very poor(who cares?!) but he is enjoying the multi-player. All the reviews I have seen have been positive, but not exactly glowing.

What? RTS is just as much about campaign as it is multiplayer. You just don't get the enjoyable set pieces. Plus i find RTS quite lame online... AI is the way to go.
