Symbian-Guru site owner in Symbian/Nokia rant :D

Because you can pretty much do anything with it (including plug in serial devices if your phone had a socket for it). Android is closer than ever but it still doesn't have the breadth of WinMo and even with the latest update iOS really isn't in the same league.
I don't know, I've used a lot of winmo phones and not only is the interface pretty terrible but I really never saw it do anything particularly breathtaking, especially nothing over what I've seen android do.

I don't really want to particularly off topic in this thread, also you can get serial cables for Android devices ;)

just going with nokia once atm and they all seem pretty poor on interface ( the touch onces anyway)

I used a family member's E71 at the weekend and it looks nice but the screen was poor, the keyboard was well seduced but the keys themselves were to small even for my delicate fingers to type fast on :S

Nokia SHOULD make a handset running Android, their N8 has a fantastic camera, a phone with that kind of imaging power needs to be Android powered.

It will sell especially with Nokia's marketing department onboard.

You have fat fingers then. E71/E72 keyboard is great.

I have had a Windows phone, a symbian phone, an iphone and Android. symbian and win was acceptable pre iphone but it just isn't any more.

With Apple and Android upping their game so much in the last couple of years I think Nokia just need to concentrate on decent handsets and bow down to Android like everyone else. Ether that or they need to make the handsets 10x better to compensate for symbian and hope it gets going but it probably never will now.

lol. Thats one diehard fan.;)

:p

Seriously though windows mobile is a modified version of their old Pocket PC. Aside from running on phones it also controls a huge amount of bar code scanners, professional GPS systems and dozens of other high tech gadgets/tools. Symbian comes close, it runs on a few similar items, but nowhere near as many as WinMo...

And that is another reason WinMo was never very good as a touchscreen OS. It was part designed as a handheld computer, brilliant for people who want/need one but rubbish (without skinning) for those that want a phone...:p

e71 is a great phone, had it over a year now.

As a non touch phone you really can't complain, keyboards vgood, app support is good, phone/pc interface is top draw.

Supports iplayer, opera mobile, opera mini, skyfire, last.fm, nokia maps, googlemaps, google apps many many more.

I doubt there's any non touch phones that beat a e71/72.

As I'm coming up for upgrade time I was thinking n900 but knowing they are kinda dropping maemo it doesnt seem worth it and the desire or desire with hardware keyboard (vision?) will have full flash support soon, n8 looks good but just don't see it having the app support of the android phones but tbh if it has all the stuff my e71 does then maybe that would be enough.
