Poll: Syrian Chemical Weapon Attack

Would you support a military strike on Syria without a UN Security Council resolution?

The rebels have overrun many of the AA and radar installations,so they have large gaps in their coverage now.

It will be tougher than Libya as Syria has newer systems though.

Why would the Rebels care who they shoot at?

They are all trigger happy, it is a dirty civil war, everything is permitted.

I would guess that these reports are greatly exaggerated, seeing as the new installations have Russian advisers stationed there and if they had been captured/killed the would have been a response. Like in Libya the rebels performance is greatly being overstated.

If the use of chemical weapons is prohibited in international law, and the people that can do anything about it don't, then does that not make all international laws insignificant? There doesn't seem to be much choice in this situation, it goes bad either way, and I'm sure powerful countries don't want to look weak.

Rules in war are like having rules for ethical murder - laughable. I would support help for refugees and setting an example for compassion for the people caught in between - we can offer nothing more than compassion. (Offering ways to for them to escape)

Video footage of overrun SAM sites seems to suggest otherwise and there are no new installations, the promised tech had an arrival date of next year. Also the Israelis have had no problems with SAMs at all when they have decided to bomb Syria. If the Syrian army was going to have their best SAMs anywhere, it would be on the border with Israel.

Basically, the Syrian air defense network can be penetrated at will and will be the first target anyway.

Diane Abbott said public opinion was against the intervention, telling the BBC: "The British public has seen this movie. They know how it ends." - for once I actually agree with her.

they likely used long range weapons though which isn't really possible if you are trying to target specific forces on the ground rather than facilities

I suppose russia could troll and enforce a no fly zone with their own tech

David camorons Iraq coming up next

As much as I object to our involvement in this why do people keep saying that? Nowhere does it appear to state or imply that the intention is to launch some sort of Iraq style invasion. Infact every source seems to say the intention is limited to chucking a few missiles at strategic targets.

Yep, no idea where people are getting these ideas from. They will bomb a few key targets and that's it.

All RAF personnel have been called in at the base here, and they have been told they could be deployed at a moments notice.

Like Libya, I don't think there will be any intention at all for boots on the ground, just air bombardment and support.

Though...has there been any proof the attack was done by Assad's forces?

unless Israel are the offenders and then they turn a blind eye right................

syrian foreign minster threatoning to attack israel if we bomb them, also read putin given military orders to attack saudi if we bomb syria.

hopefully none of that's true or atleast just bluffs.

Why would Putin attach Saudi if US/UK launch strikes against syria ? Is it because they would do so from Saudi Air fields or something ? Just seems like a really crazy retaliation strategy. Its logical to see why Syria would got for Israel, but Russia attacking the Saudi's seems bonkers

not yet although we're constantly being told assad is the only one with chemical weapons even though western ally and nato member turkey found 2kg of sarin gas in an al nusra hideout which gives some credibility to the syria claims they had also discovered chemical weapon factories belonging to the rebels with Saudi markings on the packages.

Saudi are the ones funding the rebels and al nusra ;)

it also appears they made threats to russia regarding the winter olympic games it seems

[Soudi intel chief] Prince Bandar [bin Sultan] pledged to safeguard Russia’s naval base in Syria if the Assad regime is toppled, but he also hinted at Chechen terrorist attacks on Russia’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if there is no accord. “I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us,” he allegedly said.
