Poll: Syrian Chemical Weapon Attack

Would you support a military strike on Syria without a UN Security Council resolution?

At the risk of being overly alarmist - this strikes me as a pretty good prelude to another world war... bags not being involved. Send the politicians to do the fighting...

No chance. This will be nothing. The US, UK and probably France will bomb a few targets (similar to Libya) Russia and China will moan a bit and that will be it.

Russia has not quite been this forward before, perhaps their relationship and agreements with China has solidified their will.

While it might seem the usual rhetoric, it is definitely different from the twaddle they threw around in recent years.

Should be interesting.

Not sure how reliable this source is but, Putin Orders Massive Strike Against Saudi Arabia If West Attacks Syria http://iranian.com/posts/view/post/19821

This seems extremely unlikely, as there is no mandate for an attack on Saudi Arabia. I am not sure how Russia will react to limited strikes, I doubt they'll consider military action against the US as an option. More likely they'll send in Russian personnel to discourage strikes on Syrian facilities.

Far too many factions using economic, covert & military force to over-throw leaders under the guise of "protecting innocents" over our recent history - then we wonder why these nations want to bomb us...

It was only recently that information was publicly released that the CIA with assistance overthrew the elected Iranian government (not that anybody really thought otherwise), is it so hard to believe they would try to do the same again now?.

Has the USA developed some ethical code which would prevent these known tactics from being used again? - I've yet to see any evidence of this.

It's not Russia that I'm immediately concerned about - it's the less 'stable' Iran that is the first point of concern. Russia would then have to make a pretty monumental decision as to whether to sit back and watch Iran and Syria get the crap bombed out of them or actually pick sides.

Whichever way it plays out, it's going to be unpleasant from a political standpoint.

China won't go to war, it's far too busy being rich as hell.

Russia is a fail.

America, the UK and France will run a bombing campaign on Syria by the end of the week, everyone will moan, and Syria will just be more of a mess than it is already.

This all seems a bit childish."How dare you kill people with chemicals", "for that, we will kill your people with bombs instead!"

I realise the suffering and pain caused by chemical weapons is absolutely horrible, but then i think having your legs and arms blown off by a bomb would rank right up there on the pain and suffering scale....

The idea is the US et al would target military facilities, rather than indiscriminately bomb civilians.

Well we know that is what they intend but inevitabley there always seems to be some collatoral damage.

I have always been very pro-west and conspiracy nuts and anti-american people annoy but even i think we shouldnt get involved this time.

If UK go to war along with USA.

David Cameron are the blood on his hands and ingorned to all Government MP's and Public say NO war, stay out of it. Cameron is just like another Tony Blair. He will going to be unpopular in next election.

I think its actually quite good. When boots hit the ground we can use workfare people to earn their dole money and get good work experience from it (if they survive)

The price of Petrol and a MBT is quite expensive compared to 100 crustys with dogs on strings and sharpened Big Issues. it represents good value for money too.

This is nothing but another case of regime change. Expect the facilities to be hit, will include every air, naval and army base the Syrians have and every air defence site, since all of these "might" be able to deliver chemical weapons.

Then the Syrian armed forces will be severely damaged over its current state and the rebels win.

This is pretty much what the no fly zone was in Libya.

Then all the politicians, their mates and their families will have a good pay day and their retirement plans further bolstered.

They literally have a license to make themselves better off,in the longterm and there is no consequences for their actions. We Joe and Jane Public are the ones which need to pay in the longterm with more taxes, less services, more debt,a higher cost of living, pays which are starting to stagnate and a greater chance of terrorism affecting our lives.

Plus we get more debt added on to our £900+ billion stockpile. Just lovely.

It would be very difficult to impose a stable No-fly zone over such a saturated AA defended nation.
