T-Mobile data abyssmally slow

3's maximum supported speeds are well over 7.2 though, I think they are meant to be a 14 mbps network.

T mobile have always seemingly been capped at 1.8, but orange are at 7.2 and you can use their 3G signal instead now.

If I still have abysmal speeds, I'll try complaining untill it is fixed, I am in the middle of three t mob and 3 masts, the closest ones being in a hospital.

Hmmm I really need to get rid of TMob, having slow speeds but 3Gb of usage really isnt a great compromise. Will try and test how TMob Orange fair by having it permanently on that if they now share data at 3.5G. Would that bugger up any email setup since Im using TMobs SMTP?

ps3ud0

I'm thinking of joining T-Mobile as they have a good deal on but I'm hearing/reading conflicting stories as to whether the internet speed is capped or not. It's probably the deciding factor for me. Do they limit internet speed on 12 month sim only deals??

If you live in Northern Ireland simply don't bother with T-Mobile, their coverage map proves this. Neither my dad or myself have seen 3G anywhere, including places like Belfast on his iPhone.

It was great for him on a trip to Bristol though, couldn't move for 3G :p

So, goto your Network settings, and change your Operator over to "T-Mobile Orange", and keep it on that. There's no point in Using the T-Mobile operator listed there, it's useless.

Thank you.

I was getting very poor speeds (about 900kb), now getting over 3mb switching to T-Mobile Orange.

The whole swapping network has been a complete PITA, Every time my phone switched to orange it would take forever to realise there was a full H signal back on t-mobile. This happens every time I lose signal even for a few seconds it goes to orange and stays there on dial-up speeds. having to go into the settings and click on auto connect so it would flip back to t-mobile again. Now that its completed it ok, I get 3.7Mb on orange compared to the 1.9mb on t-mobile but I still get the same problem if there's no H on orange, back to G and it stays!!!!!! In cornwall the signal is so damn sporadic this is a regular occurrence

Yep, experiencing the same issue. I had a few loss of signals and would take ages to get reception again, which is a pain and big drain on my battery.

Decided to move back to T-mobile, the loss of signal not worth the extra speed gain.

It's not designed to flip back instantly chaps which is why you're probably experiencing this - the window for checking is more like every 15 mins rather than instant switchback and if you have a session open it will not flip back (this is going to be more often than not with modern phones) until it's closed IIRC.

It would use more power constantly searching for networks than even being on the lowest signal level so the design of the system tries it. I mean really annihilating the battery, in testing for the system I made a BB go flat inside an hour because the first version of network sharing didn't have all it's marbles and constant search was on with some handsets :)

I know but if your on the web on the move, and your signal dips out for a few seconds thats fine, not much of an inconvenience; But it changes and stays to orange on G, 15mins  that's a long time to sit using a non responsive internet or something equivalent to dial-up. Down comes the notification bar, quick settings, wireless and networks then auto connect every friggin time :(

I'm not really sure how I'd find out tbh, if I'm connected to 3G or 2G. anyone know if the icon changes on an Android?

See I knew T-Mobiles Belfast signal is crappy, but I was sold on the premise that they use Orange masts where the T-Mobile network isn't great, and given that the Orange Belfast signal is decent, I dodnt think there would be a problem.

That's a good theory, except my experience of Orange is that while they may have pretty good signal, their 3G connectivity is awful!

While I can understand your unhappiness, we are only doing it so everyone can have better signal overall without destroying batteries due to searching etc... It may get better over time - seamless call transfer is pretty nice and was recently sorted out, future is limitless*

*except our bandwidth allowances ;)

I get between 3-5mb/s on T-mobile, quite happy with it :)

Only get a max of 1mb/s but usually less when using Orange.

I've got a t-mobile pay monthly internet 30ppm plan, and while so far the unlimited has been truly unlimited, this month t-mobile sent me a text about 80% usage, then 100% usage and now I can't download anything, especially from 4-12.
The account is in my aunt's name, since I'm not a UK citizen, and she called them up and they told her, he has unlimited internet BROWSING
Is it coincidence that now T-mob introduced their full monty plan I get a cap on my data usage?
And I was used to be ok that I had a capped download speed, in exchange for the data, but now both??
Very dissapointed in this, gonna go into a store once I manage to visit my aunt.

I thought there was always a cap to their unlimited package. Androids on older contract where 3GB a month (others 1GB) but they scrapped all that and its down to a dismal 500MB or 1GB I think?, If your still on an older package your fine but any changes and they will kill it. I havn't checked the recent changes but to my knowlegde t-mobile was never truly unlimited to speed or data. In coincidence My internet speed went up to 3.7Mb recently?, as far as I'm aware I'm still on 3GB a month.

Quick look on their site and it says their data plans are: 100, 750, 1000 and 1500MB. Might want to phone up and ask if there's been any data cap changes to your account or simply ask what it is.
